Wolliges Tagebuch – Wooly Diary

Ein Blick in unseren Garten: Mitte Mai ist vorbei und wir sind noch mitten im Frühling. Die Magnolie verblüht langsam, der weiße Flieder steht in voller Blüte und der Goldregen fängt an zu blühen.

A glimpse into our garden: the middle of May has passed and we are still in the middle of spring here. The magnolia has  withered, the white lilac is  in full bloom and the laburnum is getting blossoms.

Ansonsten teste ich das  Bliss weiter und bin genauso begeistert wie am Anfang. Hier der erste Strang, 100 g selbstgefärbte Polwarth Wolle zweifädig und 400 m.

Otherwise I am continuing to thest the Bliss and I am just as pleased as I was in the beginning. Here is the first spun yarn, 100 grams selfdyed Polwarth 2-ply and 400 meters.

Meine zweite Wolle auf dem Spinnrad war Shetlandwolle aus einem Fasertausch mit Alison. 346 g zweifädig und 850 m.

My second yarn was Shetland wool from a yarn swap with Alison. 346 grams 2-ply and 850 meters.

Normalerweise benutze ich die gebremste Lazy Kate die mein Mann mir gebaut hat, wenn ich zwirne. Allerdings steht die Lazy Kate beim Bliss so trickreich, dass die Spulen leicht gebremst werden und man damit gut zwirnen kann. Das ist anscheinend so, weil die Stäbe der Lazy Kate zur Seite und etwas nach hinten geneigt sind.

Normally I use the Lazy Kate with brake that DH made for me when I ply yarn. But the Lazy Kate on the Bliss is so tricky that the bobbins are braked slightly and you can ply with them easily. That seems to be because the rods of the Lazy Kate are inclined to the side andslightly  the back.

Ich bin be-Glück-t – I am Bliss-ed

Ja, ich bin be-Glück-t. Und zwar deshalb, weil “bliss” Glück heißt. Und Bliss heißt das neue Spinnrad von Woolmakers, und ich habe eins von zehn, die verlost wurden, gewonnen.

Erst einmal habe ich das Paket geöffnet. So sollten Spinnräder verpackt sein!!! Dicke mehrlagige Pappe schützt die Spinnradteile, da haben nachlässige Paketboten Schwierigkeiten, etwas kaputt zu machen (eben, sie haben es nicht geschafft). Die Spulen sind übrigens links in der Pappröhre sicher verpackt.

First I opened the parcel. That is how spinning wheels should be packed up!!! Thick multilayered cardboard protecjts the parts of the spinnning wheel, so that nasty deliverymen have problems to damage it (well, they did not make it). By the way, the bobbins are packed safely in the cardboard tube to the left.

Jedes Spinnrad hat eine eigene Seriennummer unter dem Trittbrett. Die Aufbauanleitung ist exakt, es bleiben keine Fragen offen. Alles ist genau bebildert. Und was ich besonders gut fand: Man bekommt richtiges Werkzeug für den Aufbau mitgeliefert!!! Einen ordentlichen Kreuzschlitzschraubendreher und einen 10er Maul- und Gabelschlüssel. Ich finde es ätzend, wenn man Sachen kauft und aufbauen will, und dann ist Spielzeug-Werkzeug dabei. Ausgestanzte Blechstreifen als Schraubenschlüssel oder ein Ding, was nur entfernt an einen Schraubendreher erinnert. Und dann kann man mit dem Spielzeug-Werkzeug auch nicht richtig arbeiten, hat entweder die Schrauben doll oder die ersten Kratzer auf dem neuen Spinnrad.

Each spinning wheel has a special serial number under the treadöe. The user manual is precise, with photos that answer everything. And what I especially liked: you get real tools to assemble your spinning wheel!!! A proper scre driver for crosshead screws and a 10 mm ring  and open-ended spanner combination. I think it is sooo awful when you buy something and want to assemble it and it just comes with toy tools. Punched metal sheet as a spanner and a thing tha you can hardly recognize as a scredriver. And with you cannot really work with those toy tools and creat the first scratches or totally damaged cross heads in the screws.

Und das hier gefällt mir auch: Kugellager!!! Überall dort, wo sie hingehören, das garantiert ein leichtes Treten des Spinnrads.

And I like this as well: ball bearings!!! They are in places where they belong and ensure easy treadling  of the spinning wheel.

  

     

Der Aufbau des Spinnrads dauert nicht lange / Assembling the spinning wheel does not take a long time

Die Spinnflügelachse hat knapp unter 8 mm Durchmesser und damit mehr als z.B. das Ashford Joy. 8 mm ist ein gutes Maß und macht die Spinnflügelachse sehr haltbar./ The flyer shaft has a little less than 8 mm in diameter, so that is more than eg the Ashford Joy. 8 mm is a good size and makes the flyer shaft pretty durable.

Spinnflügel aussetzen und das Spinnrad ist spinnfertig. Qualitätsfachmann Rasmus kontrolliert noch kurz das Spinnrad, findet aber keine Mängel und ist in der nächsten Sekunde schon vom Tisch gesprungen. / Put the flyer onto the spinn wheel and it is ready to spin. QA manager Rasmus takes a last close look at the details, but he cannot find any faults, so he is jumping off the table the in next second. .

Und wie spinnt es sich? Suuuuuuuuuper!!!! Woher wussten die bei Woolmakers, was für Spinnräder ich gerne mag?

Es läuft sehr leicht, lässt sich sehr leicht treten. Der Tritt is groß (es gibt auch ein Doppeltritt-Bliss), so dass ich persönlich gar kein Doppeltritt-Bliss brauche, obwohl meine anderen Spinnräder Doppeltritt haben. Man kann einen oder beide Füsse aufsetzen und sehr gemütlich spinnen. Ich trete lieber langsamer, da kommen mir die Übersetzungsverhältnisse – 1:6.5 / 1:8.5 / 1:12 / 1:18.5- sehr entgegen. Die erste Spule habe ich gemütlich mit 1:12 gesponnen. Die Bremse lässt sich sehr fein einstellen. Die Spulen sind zwischen den Scheiben nur wenige Millimeter kürzer als beim Ladybug, also eine ganz gute Größe. Die Einzugshöhe von 70 cm finde ich angenehm. Das Spinnrad wiegt nur 4,5 kg und lässt sich so ohne großen Kraftaufwand herumtragen oder zur Seite stellen.

Das Design ist streng Schwarz-Weiß, was aber derzeit modern ist, außerdem ist das Design sehr schlicht und Funktionselemente minimalistisch  zusammengefasst. Nun kann niemand mehr behaupten, dass ein Spinnrad nicht in die moderne Wohnungseinrichtung passt. Ein kleine Reminiszenz an alte Spinnradtechnik sind die Haken am Spinnflügel. Und ich persönlich muss nicht immer Schiebehaken haben.

Mein Fazit: Ein tolles Spinnrad für einen kleinen Preis (Einführungspreis 230 Euro), das mit den Spinnrädern der 500-Euro-Klasse locker mtikommt.

And how does it spin? Greaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!! How did the people at Woolmakers know which kind of spinning wheels I love?

It runs easily and is very easy to treadle. The treadle is large (there is also a double treadle Bliss available), so that I personally don’t feel the need to have a double treadle Bliss, though my other spinning wheels have a double treadle. You can treadle with one foot or two and spin comfortably. I like to treadle slowly, so I appreciate the ratios  1:6.5 / 1:8.5 / 1:12 / 1:18.5. I spun my ifrst bobbin with 1:12- The break can be adjusted very fine. The bobbins are only a few millimeters shorter than the Ladybug ones between the discs, so they have  a nice size. For me the orifice height of 70 cm is very convenient. The spinning wheel only weighs 4.5 kilogram and therefore is easy to carry around without much effort.

The design is pure black & white, which is very up to date right now. Additionally, the design is very sober and functional elements are concentrated to a minimalistically. So nobody can state now that a spinning wheel cannot suit into her/his modern furnishing. A slight reminiscence to old spinning wheel technical background are the hooks on the flyer. I personally don’t need sliding hooks.

My conclusion: A great spinnning wheel for a small price (230 Euros introductory price) that beats spinning wheels of the 500-Euros-class easily.

(Gibt es Nachteile? Ja, ihr habt recht, das kann doch  gar nicht sein bei dem Preis, es gibt einen kleinen, der aber auch auf der Homepage erwähnt wird. Bei hohen Geschwindigkeiten kann es leichte Vibrationen  geben, die nicht bis in die Arme zu fühlen sind, das haben aber andere teure Spinnräder auch (z.B. mein Ella). Da wir als Spinnradtester aber auch Verbesserungsvorschläge machen können, wird es dieses Problem bald nicht mehr geben. Mein Bliss vibriert jetzt schon durch einen kleinen Trick überhaupt nicht mehr. Und wer meinen Blog kennt, der weiß, dass mein Mann sehr genau bei Technik hinschaut.) P.S. Woolmakers arbeitet schon an dem Problem!!!

Es ist schon toll, für so einen kleinen Preis ein tolles perfektes Spinnrad zu bekommen.

(Are there disadvantages? Yes, a small one. There can be slight vibrations at high speeds, but you cannot feel them in your arms., and other expensive spinning wheels have that vibration too (eg my Ella). But as we spinning wheel testers may suggest solutions to problems, this vibration will not exist any more soon. Due to a small trick my Bliss does not vibrate any more at all. And people who know my blog know as well that DH is very picky about every technical thing.) P.S. Woolmakers are alreay working on the problem!!!

It is really great that you can get a wonderful perfect spinning wheel at such a low price.

P.S. Eifrige Leser meines Blogs kennen das schon, mein Mann bastelt lieber mit Elektrizität als mit Wolle. Und mein Bliss hat ihn natürlich direkt inspiriert. Also ist das jetzt auch schon ein E-Spinner, wenn ich es als E-Spinner haben will. Dann wird einfach eine speziell angepasste Motor angeklemmt, natürlich zerstörungsfrei mit Gummi an der Klemmvorrichtung, und los geht es. Das Spinnrad lässt sich zwar auch gut bei 1: 18,5 treten, aber ich habe heute einfach nur das Gaspedal getreten.

P.S. Busy readers of my blog might know that already, DH prefers to puzzle around with electricity instead of wool. And my Bliss inspired him immediately of course. So it is an e-spinner already whenever I want to use it as an e-spinner. I just have to clamp a motor unit to my Bliss that is especially suited to its measurements, and of course it is damage free with rubber lining on the clamping parts., and there you go. The Bliss is easy to treadle on 1:18.5 as well, but today I just pushed the accelarator pedal.

Neues Spinnrad – New Spinning Wheel

Ich habe ein Spinnrad gewonnen bei Woolmakers. Es kam heute an, ich habe es natürlich direkt aufgebaut, es spinnt sich toll, demnächst mehr dazu. Hier schon mal ein erstes Foto.

I won a spinning wheel from Woolmakers. It came today, and I assembled it immediately, of course. It spins wonderful, you will soon learn more about that. Here is a first photo.

 

Frühling – Spring

Mittlerweile ist es so richtig Frühling hier, manche Tage sind schon sommerlich. Nicht nur der Garten wird bunter, sondern die gesponnene Wolle auch. Dies hier sind 200g selbstgefärbte Polwarth mit Seide, 995 m Lauflänge. Kammzug gekauft bei Tanja.

It is really spring by now, some days even feel like summer. Not only the garden gets more colourful, but the spun wool too. This is 200 grams selfdyed Polwarth/ silk blend, 995 metres, tops bought at Tanja’s shop.

Und dann ist es natürlich wieder Zeit, Rad zu fahren. Ich fahre wie bisher mit dem E-Bike/Pedelec, sonst komme ich mit dem Asthma die Berge nicht hoch. Göga schafft die Berge mit dem Mountainbike, was ich nach wie vor bewundere. Und es bleibt mein Traum, das auch irgendwann zu schaffen. Hier ein paar Eindrücke von der Strecke.

And of course the time for cycling has come again. I used my e-bike(pedelec as before, otherwise I wont get up on the mountains with my asthma. DH manages that with his mountainbike, I really admire that. And it is still my dream to manage that one day as well. Here are some views on our tour.

Endlich ist es Frühling im Garten und die Forsythien blühen / finally it is spring in our garden and the forsythias are in blossoms

Hier sind die gefärbten Sachen von den Filmaufnahmen. 100 g Polwarth mit Seide links und 300 g BFL Multicolor rechts.

Und dann wird im Film möglicherweise eine Regenbogenfärbung im Topf auftauchen. Leider war so viel zu tun, dass ich die für eine Weile vergessen hatte. Und als ich wieder in den Topf schaute, kochte alles wild durcheinander und die dunkle Farben dominierten. Schön geworden sind die 100 g Sockenwolle trotzdem.

You might see a rainbow dye in a pot during the film to come. Unfortunately there was so much to do that I forgot about this dye for a while.  And when I took a look into the pot, everything was boiling wildly and the dark colours where dominant. Still those 100 g sockyarn look nice.

Beim Spinntreffen im Museum hatte ich von Marianne handgefärbtes pastelliges Regenbogenmohair gekauft. Nun ist es ein einfädiges Garn, 95 g und 400 m, das erst mal ausgiebig auf der Spule ruhen durfte. Dann setzt sich der Drall und ein Strickstück wird sich nicht verziehen.  Verzwirnt ist Kidmohair leicht so plüschig, dass man die einzelnen Haare überall an der Kleidung hängen hat.

When we spun in the museum I bought some handdyed pastel rainbow kidmohair from Marianne. Now it is a single yarn, 95 g and 400 m, that had to rest on the bobbin for a while. That makes the twist settle, so if you knit from it the knitted garment wont get out of shape. If you ply kidmohair it might become really fluffy and you might find the single hair everywhere on your clothing.

Das Fernsehen zu Gast – TV Report at Home

Nun war also heute die Journalistin  Frau Biermann vom WDR hier zu Gast. Es war nett, es war schön, es war spannend, es war interessant und es war ein bisschen anstrengend … aber dann auch wieder entspannend wie jedes Spinntreffen. Leider hatten nur Inés und Claudi aus der Spinngruppe zeit, so haben wir denn ein wenig improvisiert. Anfangs wurden einige Fotos geknipst, aber irgendwann vergisst man das, auch wenn die Digicam in der Hosentasche ist. So müsst ihr denn auf den Fernsehbeitrag warten. Erst gab es ein kurzes Kennenlernen, dann kam fast die Sonne raus und es wurden Aufnahmen für eine kleine Modenschau gemacht, dann wieder spinnen, filmen, spinnen, filmen, färben, filmen, spinnen, filmen. Und bereits nach der Modenschau habe ich das knipsen vergessen … Frau Biermann wusste, wie man Menschen locker macht, damit sie vor der Kamera “ganz normal” agieren. Ich denke, der Film wird schön. Ms Bierman from the Local TV station WDR was here today. It was nice, it was exciting, it was interesting and a bit exhausting … but then relaxing as well as ever spinning meeting. Unfortunately only Inés and Claudi from our spinning group had a bit of time for this, so we had to improvise. In the beginning some photos were taken, but after a while you just forget it, even if the digicam is at hand in the pocket of your jeans. So you have to wait for the TV report. We got to know each other for a short time as a start, then the sun almost started shining and a small fashion show was taped in the garden. Then spinning, taping, spinning, taping, dyeing, taping, spinning, taping. And already after the fashion show I forgot to take photos … Frau Biermann knew how to make people relaaxed so that they act “completely normal” in front of the camera. I think it will become a nice film. Here is a photo album.

Ich glaube, die Reporterin war ganz schön gefordert mit uns, aber sie machte ihre Sache gut und hat nachher auch spinnen gelernt, am Spinnrad und an der Handspindel.

I think the journalist hat quite a hard job with us, but she did her job well and learned to spin in the end, on a spinning wheel as well as on a spindle.

Frau Biermann hat direkt so richtig Spaß am Spinnen gehabt, auch mit der Handspindel. Diese Handspindel habe ich ihr geschenkt, und sie hat natürlich auch Wolle mitgenommen. Da wird wohl bald das gesamte Team des WDR-Studios Wuppertal spinnen können / Ms Biermann had fun spinning from the start, also with a hand spindle. I gave her this spindle and of course some wool. I think the whole  team of the TV station Wuppertal will be able to spin soon

Die Zeit läuft – Time Is Running

Die Zeit läuft – morgen kommt eine Reporterin vom WDR Studio Wuppertal und möchte in unserer Spinngruppe und hier bei mir zu Hause einen Film übers Spinnen und Färben machen. Ich hoffe, dass ich jetzt an alles gedacht habe und meine Vorbereitung gut genug war, dass das morgen auch gut läuft. Gestern habe ich schon reichlich Farben angemischt.  Und ich hoffe, dass ich morgen daran denke, zwischendurch auch mal ein paar Fotos zu machen, die ich euch zeigen kann.

Die tolle Uhr hat übrigens mein Mann gerade gebaut. Unsere Tochter hatte ihm ein Foto einer solchen Uhr gemailt, und er hat sich dann direkt eine gebaut. In einem wohlsortierten Bastelkeller ist ja für sowas immer genügend Material vorhanden.

Time is running – tomorrow a reporter of a local TV station wants to visit the spinning group and make a film about spinning and dyeing in my home. I hope that I thought about anything we will need and my preparations were good enough to make a nice film. Yesterday I already mixed lots of different dye colours. And I hope I will remember tomorrow to take some photos to show to you.

My husband just built the cool clock above. Our daughter mailed a photo of that kind ok clock, and he started immediately to build one for himself. In a well assorted hobby room you have always the necessary parts at hand.

Ein netter Schnickschnack für morgen für die Färbeaktion auf einer Plastikdecke (von KIK)/ a nice knickknack for the plastic dishcloth for the dyeing tomorrow

Tolle Deko bei Kartoffelsalat liegt mir nicht, aber dieser Pi mal Daumen Kartoffelsalat nach eigener Idee schmeckt lecker( der ist aus Kartoffeln mit roter Schale) / I am not good at making decor for a potato salad, but this potato salad made with a rule of thumb and my own ideas tastes nice (made from poptatoes with read paring)

Hier das Rezept:

1 kg Kartoffeln in Schale kochen, abkühlen lassen, pellen, kleinschneiden

1/2 Salatgurke und 1 Apfel schälen und kleinschneiden

Salatsoße bereiten aus: 1 kleines Glas Miracel Whip Balance (250 g), 1 Naturjoghurt (125 – 150 g), 1 Teelöffel Senf, 1 Teelöffel Salz, 1 Teelöffel schwarzer Pfeffer, 1 Teelöffel getrockneter Dill. Salatsoße gut mischen und Kartoffeln, Gurke und Apfel untermengen. Man kann den Kartoffelsalat prima am Vortag machen und über Nacht im Kühlschrank ziehen lassen. In der Sommervariante kann man statt dem Apfel reichlich Wassermelone verwenden. Und ja, das schmeckt auch sehr gut.

Here is the recipe:

Cook 1 kg potatoes, let them cool down and peel them

Peel 1/2 cucumber and 1 apple an cut into small pieces

Salad dressing: 1 small glass Miracel Whip Balance (250 g), 1 joghurt ((125 – 150 g), 1 teaspoon mustard, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon dried dill. Mix those ingredients and then mix the potatoes, cucumber and apple with the dressing. You can also make this potato salad one day in advance and let it steep in the fridge over night. A nice variation in the summer is to replace the apple with lots of watermelon. And that really tastes nice as well.

Und hier sind zwei Rezepte von meinem Mann:

Zaziki (links): 500 g Quark, 100 ml Sahne, 10 cm Salatgurke geraspelt, 5 – 6 Knoblauchzehen zerdrückt, Dill, Oregano und Salz miteinander vermengen und ziehen lassen

Schafskäsesalat (rechts): 250 g Feta, 1/2 Glas Oliven, Knoblauch, Oregano, Olivenöl (5 Esslöffel), Hot Chili Sauce ( 5 Esslöffel), Salz miteinander vermengen und ziehen lassen

And here are two recipes that my husband made:

Agathe

Ich habe Verstärkung bekommen, Agathe hilft mir nun mit den Fotos. Ich mag nicht so gerne vor der Kamera stehen, und da springt Agathe ein. (Das wird sich am Wochenende kurzzeitig ändern, der WDR möchte eine Art Homestory übers Spinnen und Färben hier bei mir drehen). Hier zeigt sie meine neueste Anmore Weste, die aber noch eine Anmore Jacke wird, da kommen noch Ärmel dran. Deshalb ist die Weste auch nicht gespannt.

Warum Agathe Agathe heißt? Tja, eine alte Geschiche. Ein Mitstudent von mir hatte in den späten 70igern ein Praktikum in der Deko-Abteilung eines Kaufhauses gemacht. Als seine Zeit dort dem Ende zuging, wurde Schaufensterpuppen ausgemustert, und er hat eine bekommen. Er nannte sie Agathe, und manchmal saß sie zum Spaß in seinem Auto auf dem Beifahrersitz. Eigentlich doof, dass man jenseits der 50 viel zu wenig Unsinn macht, oder? Irgendwie war Agathe im Auto schon witzig.

I got a co-worker, Agathe will help me with the photos in the future. I don’t like it so much to be in front of the cam, so Agathe steps in now. (That will change for a short time next weekend, a local TV station wants to do a kind of homestory with spinning and knitting in my home). Here she shows my latest Anmore Vest, which will actually become an Anmore Jacket, I will add sleeves. Therefor the vest isn’t blocked.

Why is Agathe  named Agathe? Well, that is an old story. A fellow student of me worked on work experience in a big department store back in the late 1970ies. When his time there was almost over, they decided to get rid of some showroom dummies, and he also got one. He called her Agathe, and sometimes she sat on the passenger seat of his car for fun. Isn’t it stupid to make much too little nonsense when you have passed the age of 50? Somehow seeing Agathe in that car was really funny.

Huch,  schon wieder eine Woche rum.  Leider eine Woche, in der es mir mal wieder nicht allzu gut ging. Ich halte mich dann an Stricknadeln, Spinnrädern udn Webstühlen fest, um nicht unterzugehen. Außerdem sind in letzter Zeit einige Sachen entstanden, die ich Euch noch gar nicht gezeigt habe. Z.B. habe ich über die Ostertage einen Happy Easter Shawl gestrickt, aus 190 g kuschelig weicher selbstgesponnener BFL/Mohair. Nadelstärke 6 mm, Größe 220 x 90 cm.

Oops, one week is gone again. Unfortunately a week in which I did not feel well at all. I cling to knitting needles, spinnning wheels and looms to avoid drowning. Otherwise I made some things in the last weeks which I did not show you yet. E.g. I knitted another Happy Easter Shawl during the Easter days. Ich habe noch eine Anmore Weste angefangen, sie wird allerdings dann eine Anmore Jacke. Ich denke, dass ich irgendwann die Anleitungen gleichzeigit anbiete. / I started another Anmore Vest, which will actually become an Anmore Jacket. I thinhk I will put both pattern online at the same time some day.

Dann habe ich fleißig braune Flevolander Wolle gesponnen, 525 g zweifädig und insgesamt 1635 m. Ich denke, daraus werde ich auch eine Anmore Jacke stricken, denn in die kann man sich sooo toll einwickeln.

Then I was busy spinning brown Flevolander wool, 525 grams 2-ply, and 1635 m. I think it will become another Anmore Jacket, because it is soooo nice to wrap into it.

Mein neuer zusammenklappbarer Webstuhl Ariadne, hergestellt von Varpapuu in den 1980igern, brauchte eine Kette fürs Mitmachweben im Museum. Außerdem musste der Webstuhl erst mal publikumstauglich gemacht werden. Die Kanten des Holzes waren viel zu scharf, da hätte sich jemand verletzen können. Angewebt haben dann die Spinnerinnen, die schon einen Tag vorher bei mri zu Gast waren.

My new foldable loom Ariadne, built by Varpapuu in the 1980ies, needed a warp for the join in weaving in the museum. Additionally, it needed to be prepared for use in public. The edges were so sharp that someone might hurt himself/herself. The spinners who were my guests the day before we were in the museum were so kind to start weaving a sample on it.

Gestrickt habe ich nicht viel, aber Socken nebenher gehen immer. I did not knit a lot, but you can always do socks on the side.

Die Wolle, die ich im Museum gesponnen habe, ist jetzt fertig. Daraus wird ein Crepidula Tuch für die Besitzerin der beiden Rasenmäherschafe, deren wolle das ist. Sie schenkt und jedes Jahr die Wolle ihrer Lieblinge. 250 g und 600 m.

The wool I spun in the museum is finished now. It will become a Crepidula Shawl for the owner of the two lawn mower sheep that produced this wool. She gives us the wool of her pets every year.

Im Museum habe ich bei Marianne tolle Wolle gekauft. Kidmohair von ihr  in tollen Pastell-Regenbogenfarben und ein Vlies Noord Hollander Schaf. Das ist eine Kreuzung aus Texel x Finn Sheep, die Wolle ist sehr weich und hat eine gute Stapellänge. Ich habe zwei Tüten dieser Größe, die Wolle ist bereits gewaschen.

In the museum I bought gorgeous wool from Marianne. Kidmohair she dyed in wonderful pastel rainbow colours and a fleece of Noord Hollander Sheep. That is a cross between Texel x Finnsheep.  The wool is pretty soft and has a good staple. I got two of these bags and washed them already.

Die Kidmohairwolle ist natürlich schon versponnen. Wenn man sie verzwirnt, wird sie sehr flusig und die Fasern bleiben gerne irgendwo hängen, also bleibt sie ein Dochtgarn. Sie ist mit gutem Drall gesponnen, damit sie als Singlegarn stabil bleibt. Wichtig ist es nun, die Wolle eine Weile auf der Spule zu lassen, damit der Drall sich setzt. Mal sehen, wie lange ich das aushalte, aber nach meinen Erfahrungen sollte das schon ruhig eine Woche sein. Danach reicht ein Entspannungsbad, und sie verhält sich wie gezwirnte Wolle.

The kidmohair is already spun of course. If you twist it, it becomes very fluffy and tiny fibres stick everywhere, so it ill remain a single yarn. It is spun with quite a bit of twist to be stable. Now it is important to keep it on the bobbin for a while, so that the twist will be reduced. I will see how long I can wait, I am so curious. My experience tells me to wait at least a week. After that it will have a relaxing bath and act as if it is plied.

Gestern war ich im Museum, ich fahre gleich auch wieder hin. Die Weberinnen sind letzte Woche nicht sehr weit gekommen, es ist viel Arbeit liegen geblieben. Und für mich ist es derzeit die beste Therapie. Warum verstehen Therapeuten/Ärzte eigentlich nicht, dass Weben und alle dazugehörigen Arbeiten die beste Ergotherapie sind, noch besser als stricken und spinnen? Gestern morgen ging es mir extrem schlecht, und dort war ein “Zopf”, mittags waren es sieben. Und es ging mir wesentlich besser. Der Einzug ist ein Munkabälte.

Yesterday I was in the museum, and I will drive there again today. The weavers did not get very far last week, so there is a lot of work left. And for me it is the best therapy right now. Why have therapists/doctors so much problems to get that? That weaving and all work that has to do with it is the best ergotherapy, even better than knitting and spinning? Yesterday morning I felt extremely bad, and there was just one “braid”, at noon there were seven. And I felt so much better. The pattern is Munkabälte – monk’s belt.

Wülfingmuseum April 2013

Es war gestern mal wieder einfach nur toll im Wülfingmuseum.  Es hat allen gefallen, die mit unserer Spinngruppe dort waren. Und die Weberinnen des Petzi Forums bzw. Webgerminen bei Ravelry zeigten auch einige Mitmachaktionen und haben vielen Besuchern Freude bereitet.  Das Wülfingmuseum ist eben ein sehr besonderes Museum. Ich vergesse das so leicht, weil es nur ein Dorf weiter liegt. Gestern sind Weberinnen und Spinnerinnen aus ganz Deutschland gekommen, um bei diesem Ereignis dabei zu sein. Das nächste Mitmachspinnen ist am 8. September, und ein Webtreffen am 7. und 8. September. Berim Webtreffen werden auch Workshops stattfinden, und wir überlegen, ob dort auch eine begrenzte Zahl zahlender Gäste (Spende für die Museumskasse) teilnehmen kann. Hier sind ein paar Fotos von gestern.

Unsere Spinngruppe ist auch am 12. Mai zum Tierkindertag im Bergischen Freilichtmuseum in Lindlar. Wir sind dort auf Einladung der Bergischen Schäfer im oberen Bereich des Geländes bei den Schafen. Allerdings ist das dann wegen der hohen Besucherzahl keine Mitmach-Spinnaktion, aber mankann uns über zuschauen und alle Fragen zum Spinnen loswerden.

It was wonderful in the Wülfing Museum yesterday. Everybody who was there with our spinninng group liked it. And the weavers of Petzi forum, now also to be found as Webgerminen at Ravelry also showed some activities that the visitors could do as well, and they really liked it. The Wülfing Museum is really a very special museum. I tend to forget that, because it is just in the next village. Yesterday spinners and weaver from all over Germanycame to take part in this event. The next spinning event is on 8th September, and weaving event with workshops on 7th and 8th September. Here are some photos from yesterday.
