Wolliges Tagebuch – Wooly Diary

Der Färbetopf  ist mal wieder heiß geworden.  300 g BFL superwash habe ich gefärbt, jeweils 100 g. Von der blauen Wolle gibt es noch ein Foto, die überstrahlt etwas auf dem ersten.

The dye pot got hot again. I dyed 300 grams BFL superwash, 100 grams each. The blue one is a bit too bright in the first photo, so there is another one.

Außerdem habe ich noch BFL und Seide gefärbt. Das war meine erste Seidenfärbung. Da gibt es einiges zu zupfen, bis die spinnbar ist. Das blaugrüne BFL könnte ein Stora Dimun Shawl werden.

Furthermore I dyed some BFL and silk. This was the first time I dyed silk. I will have to do quite a bit of teasing before I will be able to  spin it. The blueishgreen BFL might become a Stora Dimun Shawl.

Dann habe ich ja letzthin die von Nora Blum gefärbte Wolle gezeigt, sie ist schon fertig gesponnen. 330 g und 1200 m Lauflänge. Ich weiß noch nicht, was ich daraus mache, habe aber erste Ideen.

The BFL dyed by Nora Blum that I showed recently is spun, 330 grams and 1200 metres. I am not dure yet what I will make from it.

Wolliges Tagebuch – Wooly Diary

Vor Weihnachten trudeln die letzten Geschenke ein.  Z.B. zwei wunderschöne Handspindeln von Enid Ashcroft. Eine türkische Spindel 13 Gramm schwer in gestockter Buche und eine Bienenkorb 28 Gramm in Pau Rosa und Sapele. Und damit die Spindeln nicht in Kisten und Kästen versauern, sondern man sie auch sieht, hat Göga einen Spindelbaum gebaut.

Before Christmas the last presents get here, eg two gorgeous spindles made by Enid Ashcroft. One Turkish spindle in spalted beech, 13 grams, and one beehive in Pau Rosa and Sapele, 28 grams. And to prevent the spindles from disappearing in boxes, DH built a spindle tree.

Und ein wenig Färben war auch noch angesagt. Schließlich war ich ja gerade so schön mit Chamäleon-Farben dran: oben 300 g BFL Multicolor, darunter 2 x Polarfuchs, unten 500 g Devon. Devon findet meiner Meinung nach nicht genügend Beachtung.  Auch diese Faser glänzt schön und kann locker mit Wensleydale mithalten.

And I went on to dye a bit, just had a run with that. 300 grams BFL humbug on top, 2 x 200 grams Polarfuchs (grey Icelandic) in the middle, 500 grams Devon at the bottom. In my opinion Devon wool is underrated, I think it is as good as Wensleydale.

Ich habe noch einen Remembrance Cowl gestrickt, eine meiner Anleitungen, diesmal aus 4-fach Sockenwolle und mit mehr Maschen. Die Farben passen so gut zu meiner Verdal-Jacke.

I knit another Remembrance Cowl, one of my patterns, this time from 4-ply sock yarn, which fit so nicely with the colours of my Verdal Jacket.

Und dann stand das Spinnrad auch nicht still. Beides Falkland Wolle von Helen Jacobs-Grant, oben die grüne Wolle 100 g und 320 m navajo-gezwirnt und unten die pinke 200 g und 350 m zweifädig. Die pinke erinnert mich an einen von meiner Mutter gestrickten Winterpullover, den ich vor etwa 45 Jahren oft getragen und heiß und innig geliebt habe. Darunter noch die letzten beidenWeihnachtsgeschenke für mich, die unsere Paketbotin gebracht hat, auch von Helen.

And the spinning wheel turned a bit too. Both Falkland wool from Helen Jacobs-Grant, the green wool on top 100 grams and 320 metres navajo plied, and below the pink one 100 grams and 350 metres 2-ply. The pink one reminds me of a winter sweater my mother knit for me 45 years ago. I loved that sweater so much. Below the last two Christmas presents for me that the postwoman brought, they coem from Helen too.

Und dann habe ich noch Lesestoff für die nächsten Tage bekommen. Meine letzte Spin Off ist in den Wirren von Hurrikan Irene irgendwo an der amerikanischen Ostküste verschwunden. Es wurde ein Ersatzheft geschickt, aber insgesamt dauerte die Lieferung etwas zweieinhalb Monate. Nun traf das Heft in einer normalen Lieferzeit ein.

And then I got a bit to read for the next days. My last Spin Off magazine disappeared in the confusion of hurricane Irene somewhere on the Eastern coast of the USA, and a replacement took a while, total delivery time was about two and a half months. This copy got here in a normal delivery time now.

Färbereien – Dyeing

Der Färbetopf wird derzeit kaum kalt. Hier ein paar bunte Bilder in einer grauen Jahreszeit.

The dyepot hardly gets cold. Here are some colourful photos in a grey time of year.

Mischlingswolle Blaukopfschaf x Weißkopfschaf, ich habe alle möglichen Varianten von Rottönen getestet. Und es kommt demnächst noch mehr.

Wolle vom Wollschaf, jeweils 200 g gefärbt: Wolle aus England Superwash, Cheviot Superwash, Alpaka.

       The wool dyed by Helen Jacobs-Grant arrived today. Gorgeous wool as it always is.

Ein bisschen Gesponnenes ist auch fertig geworden. Merino/Bambus/Seide vom Wollschaf. 300 g und 1100 m. Ich hatte schon 200 g davon, nun reicht die superweiche Wolle für einen Pullover.

I spun a bit as well. Merino/bamboo/silk from Wollschaf.  110 m and 300 grams. I spun already 200 grams a while ago, now it is enough of this supersofyarn  for a sweater.

Und dann ist etwas Besonderes fertig geworden. Castlemilk Moorit, die ich von Alison bekommen habe. Die Farbe und der Crimp sind wie bei eienr Nylonstrumpfhose und den einzelnen Fäden. Die Wolle ist weich und elastisch. 109 Gramm und 400 m Lauflänge.

And here is something special. Castlemilk Moorit, which I got from Alison. Colour and crimp resemble nylon stockings andthreads a lot. The wool is soft and elastic. 109 grams and 400 metres.

Färben und Spinnen – Dyeing and Spinning

Hier ist frisch gefärbte Milchschafwolle für eine Strickdecke, das Schaf Jacky ist aus der Herde von Astrid/Buntesschaf. Die Decke wird allerdings nur langsam größer, das wird wohl noch ein paar Jahre dauern.

This is Eastfrisian Milksheep wool I just dyed from a sheep named Jacky from Astrid’s/Buntesschaf’s flock for a knitted blanket project. The blanket takes quite a while to get bigger, so it might take a few years still until it is finished.

Dies war die erste Spin Off Ausgabe, die ich vor fünf Jahren gesehen habe. Ich wusste gar nicht, dass es so eine Zeitschrift gibt. Mein Exemplar habe ich ja letzthin bei Wolle Traub gekauft und nun Blauwe Texelaar aus einem Vlies in zwei Verschiedenen Farben für so ein niedliches estonisches Handpuppen-Schaf gesponnen. Die graue Wolle hat 285 m Lauflänge und die braune 190 m, das reich für weitaus mehr alsnur eine Handpuppe.

This was the first Spin Off edition I had ever seen five years ago. I did not know there is a spining magazine. I bought copy at Wolle Traub lately and spun some Blauwe Texelaar, both colours from just one fleece, to knit such a cute little sheep puppet soon. The grey wool has 285 metres and the brown one 190 metres, much more than I will need for just one puppet.

Llanwenog

LLanwenog ist eine Schafsrasse, die aus einer alten walisischen Rasse und Shropshire Schafen gekreuzt wurde.  Teile des Vlieses können sehr weich sein, der Rest erinnert an weiches Milchschaf. Ich habe die Wolle schön bunt gefärbt und einen Teil davon zusammen kardiert. Diese Wolle werde ich jetzt zweifädig verspinnen um zu sehen, ob das so ok ist, und dann den Rest kardieren. Nach dem Test werde ich sehen, ob ich die Batts noch mal quer kardiere.

Llanwenog is a sheep breed that came to existence by crossing an old Welsh breed with shropshire sheep. Parts of the fleece can be pretty soft, but most of it reminds me of soft Eastfrisian Milksheep. I carded a part of the wool. I will spin the batts two-ply and see what it looks like. After that I will see if I card the others the same way or turn the batts by 90 degrees and card them again.

Ich habe die Wolle in der kleinen Tüte kardiert. Erst jede Farbe einzeln, dann jedes Vlies quer geteilt und dann noch mal längs, also in vier Teile. Dann zusammen kardiert und die Batts in der Länge halbiert und zu Rolags gerollt.

I started with the small bag of wool. First I carded each singel colour, parted the fleece/batt across and lengthwise, so I had four tiny batts each. I carded the colours together and then divided the batts in the middle again and rolled eight rolags.

Spinnen und Färben – Spinning and Dyeing

Ein bisschen selbstgefärbte  zweifädige Cormo-Lammwolle ist fertig geworden. Ich spinne gerade noch weitere Stränge. 160 Gramm und 720 Meter, gefärbt mit teal und emerald von Ashford.

A strand of selfdyed 2-ply Cormo lambswool is spun, dyed with teal and emerald by Ashford. 160 grams and 720 metres. I am spinning o more of that.

Jedes Jahr bekommt unsere Spinngruppe Wolle von zwei großen Wiesenmix Kuschel-Rasen”mähern”, einer ist braun und einer ist grau, hier die ersten Stränge

Each year, our spinning group gets the wool of two huge meadowmix crossbreed cuddling lawn mowers, one is brown and one is grey, here are the first strands.

Vor Kurzem habe ich Llanwenog Rohwolle aus England bekommen. Der ersten Batzen, 200 g, ist gefärbt.

Lately I got some fresh Llanwenog wool from England. The first bit, 200 grams, are dyed.

 

Spinnen und Färben – Spinning and Dyeing

Ja, ich arbeite auch noch mit Wolle. Es wird mal wieder Zeit, etwas zu zeigen. Es gab so einiges zum Färben. Ich habe die neue Ashford-Farbe Emmerald/Smaragd getestet. Hier ein Wollbatzen Suffolk Lammwolle und ein Strang Milchschafwolle.

Sure, I still work with wool. So I should really show a bit. I dyed quite a bit of wool and tested the new Ashford colour Emerald. Here is a batt of Suffolk lambswool and a strand of Eastfrisian Milksheep.

Hier ist der Wollbatzen nochmal, zusammen mit einem weiteren Batzen Suffolk und die beiden rechts sind Suffolk x Bergschafwolle, alles Lammwolle aus Nesseborg.

Here is the batt again, together with another batt of Suffolk and the two on the right are Suffolk x Bergschaf (Mountain Sheep), they are all lambswool from Nesseborg.

Und dann habe ich noch einen Wollbatzen Cormo-Lammwolle mit Smaragd und Türkis gefärbt.

And I dyed a batt of Cormo lambswool wit emerald and teal.

Außerdem habe ich wolle gefärbt, die ich schon vor längerer Zeit gesponnen habe, Pünktchen-Wolle.

Die Wolle stammt von dem Schaf Pünktchen, dass leider schon länger tot ist und das Lieblingsschaf seiner Besitzerin Astrid war.

The wool is from the sheep Pünktchen, which dyed quite a while ago and was the favourite sheep of her owner, Astrid.

Die graue Texel, die ich in Rottönen überfärbt habe, ist fertig gesponnen. 525 Gramm und 1020 Meter.

The grey texel that I dyed in shades of red is spun, 525 grams and 1020 metres.

Und dann habe ich noch braune Milchschafwolle von Sanne gesponnen, die zusammen mit der gefärbten Milchschafwolle von ihrem Schaf ein Schal werden soll.

And I spun brown Eastfrisian Milksheep wool of Sanne’s sheep, that shall beccome a scarf together with the dyed one of her sheep.

Im Januar habe ich einen Wollbatzen Wittener Texelwolle gefärbt (links)

439 Gramm und 830 Meter / 439 grams and 830 metres

Pastellfarben wirken zweifädig gezwirnt of matschig, deshalb ist diese Wolle navajogezwirnt.

Pastel colours often look muddy when plied 2-ply, so I navajoplied them.

Und dann habe ich noch einen zweiten Flying North Shawl gestrickt, die kostenlose Anleitung gibt es ja in diesem Blog. Da die Wolle weniger Lauflänge hatte, habe ich eine Blümchenreihe ausgelassen.

And I knit another Flying North Shawl, you will find the free pattern in this blog. As the wool was a bit less I left out oe row of blossoms.

Grau überfärben – Grey Overdyed

Ich habe letzthin graue Texelwolle überfärbt und nun ist der erste Strang fertig. An der gesponnenenWolle zeigt sich, wie schön und angenehm fürs Auge so eine Färbung wird. Viele sanft eineinader übergehende Farbnuancen.

Lately I dyed grey Texel wool and the first strand is spun. The pleasant Effect when looking at wool dyed that way can be prfectly seen when the wool is spun. Many shades that change gently.

Derzeit wärmt der Färbetopf öfters die Küche. Heute Morgen haben ein paar Vliese für ein Gruppenbild auf der Gartenbank Platz genommen. Links Texelwolle aus Witten, in der Mitte graue überfärbte Texelwolel aus Sellignen, rechts Swifter x Texel Lammwolle von Marianne.

Gesponnen ist die Hälfte der amerikanschen Mischwolle, sie ist etwas pinker als auf diesem Foto. Ca. 250 g und 400 m Lauflänge.

Half of the American crossbreed blend is spun, it is a bit more pinkish than on this photo. About 250 grams and 400 metres.

Färbereien – Some Dyeing

Derzeit stricke ich den See The Light Shawl noch einmal, um die Anleitung zu testen. Dafür nehme ich selbstgesponnene Kaschmirwolle, die ich in dieser Woche gefärbt habe

Right now I am knitting the See The Light Shawl again to test the pattern. I am using selfspun cashmere wool that I dyed last week.

Ich habe noch mehr gefärbt, diesmal alles mit Seidenmalfarben im Topf.

I dyed some more, only using silk dyed this time.

Eine größere Menge Friesisch Melkschaap, ausreichend für einen Pullover oder eine Jacke

Ansonsten spinne ich derzeit viel zur Probe. Göga hat ein Spinnrad mit Fahrradfelge gebaut, das recht ordentlich läuft. Demnächst mehr darüber und Fotos davon gibt es schon in meinem Fotoalbum.

Furthermore I do some test spinning. DH built a spinning wheel with a bicycle rim that spins quite nice. I will soon tell more about it, you can have a look at it in my photoalbum already.
