Wolliges Tagebuch – Wooly Diary

Der Färbetopf  ist mal wieder heiß geworden.  300 g BFL superwash habe ich gefärbt, jeweils 100 g. Von der blauen Wolle gibt es noch ein Foto, die überstrahlt etwas auf dem ersten.

The dye pot got hot again. I dyed 300 grams BFL superwash, 100 grams each. The blue one is a bit too bright in the first photo, so there is another one.

Außerdem habe ich noch BFL und Seide gefärbt. Das war meine erste Seidenfärbung. Da gibt es einiges zu zupfen, bis die spinnbar ist. Das blaugrüne BFL könnte ein Stora Dimun Shawl werden.

Furthermore I dyed some BFL and silk. This was the first time I dyed silk. I will have to do quite a bit of teasing before I will be able to  spin it. The blueishgreen BFL might become a Stora Dimun Shawl.

Dann habe ich ja letzthin die von Nora Blum gefärbte Wolle gezeigt, sie ist schon fertig gesponnen. 330 g und 1200 m Lauflänge. Ich weiß noch nicht, was ich daraus mache, habe aber erste Ideen.

Wollbeute – Wool Prey

Manchmal muss man Glück haben, und ein bisschen Fantasie. Und sich vorstellen können, wie falsch ein Foto Farben wiedergibt. So wie diese tolle superweiche BFL-Färbung von Nora Blum. Ich schreibe besser gar nicht, wie günstig ich die bekommen habe, das ist schon fast peinlich.

Sometimes you need a little bit of luck and fantasy. You have to imagine what a colour might look like that looks pretty wrong on a photo. As my wonderful supersoft BFL that I got from Nora Blum. I better don’t write how cheap I got it, that is almost embarassing.

Auch ich habe die Farbe nicht so ganz hin bekommen, aber so in etwa sieht die Wolle aus. Und die Wolle online sah so aus, also gaaanz anders, viel kältere Farben.

I also didn’t really manage to catch the colour, but I almost made it. And this is what the wool looked like online, completely different, the colours look much colder.

Und dann kamen heute schon meine neuen Fahrradreifen an, vom EVO-Bikeshop in Bochum. Gut, schnell, preiswert. Und morgen ist wieder richtig gutes Wetter zum Fahrrad fahren

Woolomania

Ich kann es nicht lassen, Helens handgefärbte Kammzüge sind zu verführerisch. Und die Farben sind etwas intensiver als auf den Fotos im Shop. Aber vor allem hat die Wolle eine Qualität, die ich sonst nirgendwo gefunden habe. Weich, fluffig, voluminös, leicht zu spinnen. Wie kann ich da widerstehen?

I cannot stop myself from buying Helen’s handdyed rovings, they are just too tempting. The colours are more intensive that on the shop photos. But above all the wool has a quality which I have not found anywhere before. Soft, fluffy, lots of volume, easy to spin. So how can I resist?

Und dann arbeite ich an meiner neuesten Tuch-Kreation aus Ullcentrum Öland Wolle zweifädig.

I am working on my latest shawl design, knitted from Ullcentrum Öland wool 2-ply.

Die Wollen auf beiden Fotos sind etwas besonderes. Helen färbt mit selbstgemachten natürlichen Farben. Ann Linderhjelm hat Ende der 90iger angeefangen, Wolle auf Öland zu sammeln, die weggeschmissen werden sollte, und hat angefangen, daraus wunderschöne Spinnvliese und Strickwollen herzustellen. Auch sie hat ihre Farben entwickelt.

The wool on both photos is something special. Helen dyed her wool with selfmade natural dyes. Ann Linderhjelm started to collect wool on Öland that was supposed to be disposed of. She started to ake beautiful spinning wool and knitting yarn from that wool and also developed her own dyes.

Wolliges Tagebuch -Wooly Diary

Zunächst mal etwas nicht Wolliges.  Eine Kollegin war beim letzten Spinntreffen hier. Nach vorheriger Absprache brachte sie ein altes Röhrenradio aus den 50igern mit, weil es kaputt war. Göga hat es ihr “mal eben” repariert und wollte nichts dafür haben. Daraufhin hat sie uns Eier von ihren Hühnern geschenkt, es sind wohl besondere Rassen. Jeweils 6 von denen links und in der Mitte. Rechts zum Vergleich ein normales Hühnerei. Sind diese besonderen Eier nicht unglaublich niedlich?

Starting with something non-wooly: a colleague came to our last spinning meeting. She asked before if DH could have a look at her faulty valve/tube radio from the 50ies and brought it along. DH repaired it in a pretty short time, and he did not want anything for it. Therefore she gave us eggs from her speccial breed hens,  six of each from the ones on the left and in the middle. On the right is a normal egg to have something to compare size. Aren’t they sweeeeet?

Während des Sspinnens habe ich reichlich gelesen, ua. diese Mystery-Serie Threadville Mysteries . Das Buch “Dire Threads” hat mir gefallen, ich freue mich schon auf das nächste Buch  der Serie. Wer etwas über die Personen erfahren will, kann unter dem Link etwas über diese lesen. Es sind “Blogeinträge” von Killer Characters . Dann kam hier noch eine wunderschöne Russische Spindel von Enid Ashcroft an. Lindenholz und nur 17 Grann schwer, sie spinnt sich gut.

And a beatufil Russian spindle from Enid Ashcroft arrived last week. Lime and only 17 grams weight, it spins wonderfully.

Und nun bin ich einfach nur gespannt, wann der Besucherzähler hier in meinem Blog die eine Million überschreitet. Das dürfte noch in diesem Monat passieren.

And now I am pretty excited to watch when my counter for visitors will pass one million. That should still happen within this month.

Wolliges Tagebuch – Wooly Diary

Es gibt wieder einiges zu zeigen. Zunächst mal Spinnereien. Die hintere Wolle auf diesem Foto ist Masham. Vorgezogen wird die schon wesentlich pastelliger.

There is a bit I can show, I will start with spinning. The wool in the background is Masham. Predrafted the colours turn into pastel shades.

Und die fertig gesponnene Wolle hat dann eine Fülle von sanften Farben. Lauflänge 610 m, 200 g.

And the spun wool offers many different soft shades. Length 610 metres, 200 grams.

Ich nehme an einer Sammelbestellung von Bond-Wolle aus Australien teil. Vorab gab es schon mal Woll-Leckerli. 2 Lokcen und 1,8 g Bond-Wolle vom Bock Morwig, 1,8 g und 23 m. Und Optim Kammzug gab es auch, 50 g, das sind 2-fädig 320 m geworden. Die Fadendicke ist etwa von 4-fach-Sockenwolle.

I am taking part in a centralised buying of Bond wool from Australia. We got some wool candies in advance. 2 locks and 1.8 grams of Bond ram wool, which gave 23 m single yarn. And we also got 50 grams Optim roving, which spun to 320 metres, 2-ply. The thread is as thick as 4-ply sockyarn.

Eine Mütze nach meiner neuen Anleitung habe ich auch gestrickt, aus selbstgesponnener Wolle. Einem Schäfchen ist sie doch recht groß, aber zu zweit passt sie schon fast.

I knit a hat using  my new papttern from selfspun wool. It is a bit huge for one sheep, but for two sheep it fits almost perfectly.

Neues wolliges Jahr – New Wooly Year

Ein neues wolliges Jahr ist angebrochen, aber ich muss doch noch einiges aus den letzten Tagen des letzten Jahres zeigen. Da waren z.B. wollige Weihnachtsgeschenke, die beutzt oder verarbeitet werden wollen.

A new wooly year has started, but I still have to show a bit of the last wooly ays of the last wooly year. Eg there were wooly Christmas presnets that have to be worked with or worked on.

Und schon ist sie gesponnen. 100 g pastellige zweifädige BFL mit 455 Meter Lauflänge und 120 g sonniggelbe zweifädige Merino mit 600 m Lauflänge.

And it is already spun. 100 grams pastel 2-ply BFL with 455 metres  length and 120 grams sunnycoloured 2-ply Merino with 600 metres length.

Handgefärbte Kammzüge von der Spinnmaus. Der erste ist gesponnen, Merino/Bambus zweifädig 100 g und 460 m, der zweite, Masham, zum Spinnen vorgezogen. Handdyed rovings by Spinnmaus.

The first is already spun, Mrino/Bamboo 2-ply 100 grams and 460 metres. The second, Masham, is predrafted.

Die neuen Enid Ashcroft Spindeln laufen gut.  Ich spinne ja wenig mit Spindeln, aber diese machen Spaß.

Dann habe ich diese Filztasche noch gar nicht gezeigt, aus 100 g zweifädig gesponnenem Evilla Vorgarn.

For Christmas I got a nice book from DH and a nice lambs calendar from Sanne.

In der Spiinngruppe haben wir gewichtelt, ich bekam wunderschön superweiche BFL / we had a Julklapp in our spinning group, I got wonderful and very soft BFL

Und ich habe selber noch ein bisschen gefärbt. Kaschmirersatz in Fuchsia und Cotswold in Rostorange. And I dyed a bit myself, false Cashmere in Fuchsia and Cotswold in a rusty orange.

         

Ich glaube, das war es erst mal. I think that is it so far.

Gewonnen – I Won

Heute morgen kam hier völlig überraschend ein Paket aus Schweden an. Ich hatte an einem Strickwettbewerb teilgenommen, von dem ich im Ullcentrum Blogg gelesen hatte. Und ich habe dort in den letzten Tagen nicht gelesen und nun völlig überraschend den ersten Preis gemacht und ein Wollpaket für 1000 SEK, ca. 100 Euro, gewonnen.

This morning I was absolutely surprised to get a parcel from Sweden. I had taken part in a knitting contest that I read about at Ullcentrum Blogg. And I did not read in that blog and was really surprised that I won the first prize. A hugeyarn parcel filled with wool for 1000 Swedish Crowns, about 100 Euros.

Vor Weihnachten trudeln die letzten Geschenke ein.  Z.B. zwei wunderschöne Handspindeln von Enid Ashcroft. Eine türkische Spindel 13 Gramm schwer in gestockter Buche und eine Bienenkorb 28 Gramm in Pau Rosa und Sapele. Und damit die Spindeln nicht in Kisten und Kästen versauern, sondern man sie auch sieht, hat Göga einen Spindelbaum gebaut.

Before Christmas the last presents get here, eg two gorgeous spindles made by Enid Ashcroft. One Turkish spindle in spalted beech, 13 grams, and one beehive in Pau Rosa and Sapele, 28 grams. And to prevent the spindles from disappearing in boxes, DH built a spindle tree.

Und ein wenig Färben war auch noch angesagt. Schließlich war ich ja gerade so schön mit Chamäleon-Farben dran: oben 300 g BFL Multicolor, darunter 2 x Polarfuchs, unten 500 g Devon. Devon findet meiner Meinung nach nicht genügend Beachtung.  Auch diese Faser glänzt schön und kann locker mit Wensleydale mithalten.

And I went on to dye a bit, just had a run with that. 300 grams BFL humbug on top, 2 x 200 grams Polarfuchs (grey Icelandic) in the middle, 500 grams Devon at the bottom. In my opinion Devon wool is underrated, I think it is as good as Wensleydale.

Ich habe noch einen Remembrance Cowl gestrickt, eine meiner Anleitungen, diesmal aus 4-fach Sockenwolle und mit mehr Maschen. Die Farben passen so gut zu meiner Verdal-Jacke.

I knit another Remembrance Cowl, one of my patterns, this time from 4-ply sock yarn, which fit so nicely with the colours of my Verdal Jacket.

Und dann stand das Spinnrad auch nicht still. Beides Falkland Wolle von Helen Jacobs-Grant, oben die grüne Wolle 100 g und 320 m navajo-gezwirnt und unten die pinke 200 g und 350 m zweifädig. Die pinke erinnert mich an einen von meiner Mutter gestrickten Winterpullover, den ich vor etwa 45 Jahren oft getragen und heiß und innig geliebt habe. Darunter noch die letzten beidenWeihnachtsgeschenke für mich, die unsere Paketbotin gebracht hat, auch von Helen.

And the spinning wheel turned a bit too. Both Falkland wool from Helen Jacobs-Grant, the green wool on top 100 grams and 320 metres navajo plied, and below the pink one 100 grams and 350 metres 2-ply. The pink one reminds me of a winter sweater my mother knit for me 45 years ago. I loved that sweater so much. Below the last two Christmas presents for me that the postwoman brought, they coem from Helen too.

Und dann habe ich noch Lesestoff für die nächsten Tage bekommen. Meine letzte Spin Off ist in den Wirren von Hurrikan Irene irgendwo an der amerikanischen Ostküste verschwunden. Es wurde ein Ersatzheft geschickt, aber insgesamt dauerte die Lieferung etwas zweieinhalb Monate. Nun traf das Heft in einer normalen Lieferzeit ein.

And then I got a bit to read for the next days. My last Spin Off magazine disappeared in the confusion of hurricane Irene somewhere on the Eastern coast of the USA, and a replacement took a while, total delivery time was about two and a half months. This copy got here in a normal delivery time now.

Färbereien – Dyeing

Der Färbetopf wird derzeit kaum kalt. Hier ein paar bunte Bilder in einer grauen Jahreszeit.

The dyepot hardly gets cold. Here are some colourful photos in a grey time of year.

Mischlingswolle Blaukopfschaf x Weißkopfschaf, ich habe alle möglichen Varianten von Rottönen getestet. Und es kommt demnächst noch mehr.

Ein bisschen Gesponnenes ist auch fertig geworden. Merino/Bambus/Seide vom Wollschaf. 300 g und 1100 m. Ich hatte schon 200 g davon, nun reicht die superweiche Wolle für einen Pullover.

I spun a bit as well. Merino/bamboo/silk from Wollschaf.  110 m and 300 grams. I spun already 200 grams a while ago, now it is enough of this supersofyarn  for a sweater.

Und dann ist etwas Besonderes fertig geworden. Castlemilk Moorit, die ich von Alison bekommen habe. Die Farbe und der Crimp sind wie bei eienr Nylonstrumpfhose und den einzelnen Fäden. Die Wolle ist weich und elastisch. 109 Gramm und 400 m Lauflänge.

And here is something special. Castlemilk Moorit, which I got from Alison. Colour and crimp resemble nylon stockings andthreads a lot. The wool is soft and elastic. 109 grams and 400 metres.

Tja, gaaaanz einfaches Vorgarn von Evilla. Gesponnen und verzwirnt, man lässt es einfach so ins Spinnrad einlaufen. Denn ich musste etwas vorsichtig mit meinem Handgelenk ein. Das Schreckgespenst jeder Wollsüchtigen hatte nämlich vorbeigeschaut: das linke Handgelenk schmerzte sehr und war nicht mehr zu gebrauchen. Entzündung im Knorpelbereich, Diskus Triangularis. Ich weiß jetzt sehr genau, wo dieser Knorpel im Handgelenk liegt. Der Orthopäde versprach mir, dass das Gelenk mit einer Spritze binnen 24 Stunden wieder voll einsatzfähig sei. Ich habe nicht gefragt was drin ist, dafür tat das zu weh, sondern ihn einfach machen lassen. Nach 24 Stunden war der Schmerz weg, dafür ein leichter Flush, also war es Cortison. Aber in diesem Fall sehr sinnvoll eingesetzt. Natürlich bin ich noch etwas vorsichtig mit dem Gelenk, damit das Schreckgespenst nicht wiederkommt.

Weeeeell, just some simple preyarn by Evilla. Spun and plied, you just let it run into the wheel. I had to be carful with my wrist. The nightmare of every wooloholic struck me: my left wrist hurt a lot andcould not be used any more. Inflamation of the dicus triangularis, a cartilage whose position I can name now pretty precisely. The orthopedist promised my wrist would be usalbe within 24 hours with an injection. I did not even ask what was in it, I just watned the injection. After 24 houors the pain was really gone, and I knew what the substance was, because I had a slight flush: it was cortisone. But in this case very useful and effective. Of course I am still a bit careful with my wrist because I don’t want to be in that nightmare again.

Ich habe längere Zeit an dieser Wolle gesponnen und sie nun verzwirnt. Es ist Suffolk x Bergschaf Lammwolle, die Fasern sind maximal 5 cm lang, Selbstgefärbt, navajogezwirnt, 720 m Lauflänge und filzfähig wird das wohl ein Strickfilz-Projekt werden.

I spun on this wool for quite a while. It is Suffolk x Mountainsheep lambswool, the maximum fibre length is 5 centimetres. Selfdyed, navajo plied, 720 metres and it felts, so it will become some knitfelting project.

Die Freundin unseres Sohnes hat einen Hund. Der Winter naht und Hund Sunny hat recht kurze Haare. Hoffentlich passt ihm mein erster Versuch, einen Hundemantel zu stricken. Das Muster ist aus dem Buch Folk Vests von Cheryl Oberle, Stone Walls Vest.

Our son’s girlfriend has a dog. Winter ist getting closer, and dog Sunny has short hair. I hope the first dog coat I every made will fit him. The pattern is from Folk Vests by Cheryl Oberle, the Stone Walls Vest.
