Wolliges Tagebuch – Wooly Diary

Im Wolligen Tagebuch muss ich noch so einiges nachtragen. Hieran stricke ich gerade: ein Happy Easter Shawl, diesmal aus Wolle vom Ullcentrum, Farbe Sommaräng/Sommerwiese. Diese Farbstellung ist wirklich unglaublich schön. Man kann an die schönen Blumen auf einer Sommerwiese denken.:Kleine und große Weidenröschen, Glockenblumen, Margeriten, Hahnenfuss usw. und man kann vom Sommer träumen. An manchen Stellen hat die Wolle einen Tweed-Effekt, was sie noch schöner macht. Daran sieht man, wer wirklich diese Farbverlaufswolle entwickelt hat und absoluter Meister darin ist: Ann Linderhjelm, die Gründerin von Ullcentrum.

I have to add quite a bit to my wooly diary. This is what I am knitting just now: a Happy Easter Shawl, this one with wool from Ullcentrum. Sommaräng/ summer hayfield.This colour shade is absolutely beautiful. You can really think of the beautiful flowers on a summer hayfield.  Rosebay and great hairy willow-herb, bell flower, marguerite, butercup and so on., and you can dream of summer. In some palces the yarn has a tweed effect, which makes it even more beautiful. By that you can really see who is the inventor of this kind of variegated yarn and still absolute master in it: Ann Linderhjelm, the founder of Ullcentrum.

Hier ein paar Fotos von Wollknäueln und Strängen. An dieser Wolle ist noch viel Handarbeit. Deshalb gibt es keinen Standard-Strang mit 100 g, die Stränge werden alle einzeln gewogen und haben etwas 100 g. Bei den grünen sind es 94 und 111 Gramm. Das wird eien Spring Flower Shawlette. bekommt aber vielleicht noch einen anderen Namen. In der Wolle kann hier und da noch ein Fitzelchen Heu oder Stroh sein, was aber nicht für mangelnde Qualität spricht, sondern für Naturbelassenheit.

Here are some photos of balls and skeins. There is a lot of manual work on these skeins. There is no standard skein weighing 100 grams, they are weighed each and have abaut 100 grams. The green ones are 94 and 111 gram. That will become a Spring Flower Shawlette, but it might also get a different name. There can be bits of VM in the yarn here and there, which does not mean a lack of quality, but that it is eco-friendly.

Mitmachspinnen

Es ist wieder so weit: Unsere Spinngruppe macht am 29. April wieder Mitmachspinnen im Wülfing-Museum von 11 bis 17 Uhr.

Wer sich fürs Spinnen interessiert kann gerne vorbeikommen und sich auch mal am Spinnrad versuchen. Und wer ein Spinnrad hat und in Geslschaft spinnen möchte setzt sich einfach dazu.

Und natürlich ist das tolle Wülfing-Museum immer einen Besuch wert.

Hier ein paar Eindrücke vom letzten Mitmach-Spinnen:

Stora Dimun Shawl

Ich habe noch einen Stora Dimun Shawl, Design Cheryl Oberle, gestrickt. Die Form ist einfach so schön kuschelig. Gestrickt aus 370 g selbstgefärbter selbstgesponnener Bluefaced Leicester Wolle, die Farben habe ich “wildes wildes Meer” genannt. Das Tuch ist vom Schnitt her ein FäröerTuch, und die Färöer-Inseln sind von der wilden Nordsee umtost. Nadelstärke 4,5 mm, Lauflänge 1150 m, Größe 250 x 95 cm!!!!

I knit another Stora Dimun Shawl, design Cheryl Oberle. The shape is so nice for cocooning. Knit from 370 grams selfdyed selfspun Bluefaced Leicester wool, I named the colourway “wild wild sea”. The shape is a Faroese shawl, and the Faroer islands are surrounded by the wild Northern Sea. Needle size 4.5 mm, length 1150 metres, size 250 x 95 cm!!!!!

Und so wurde die Wolle zum Tuch. Erst habe ich BFL im Topf gefärbt und dann gesponnen, 330 g und 1030 m. Ich dachte, das müsste reichen, aber es reichte nicht. Da ich noch reichlich BFL hatte, habe ich dann neun verschiedene Farbschattierungen gefärbt und dann die besten rausgesucht und Wolle nachgesponnen. Nun habe ich noch etwas ein Pfund verschiedenste BFL Grün- und Grünblautöne, für die mir bestimmt etwas gutes einfällt.

And this is how the wool became a shawl. I dyed BFL in a pot and spun it, 330 grams and 1030 metres. I thought that should be enough for the shawl, but it was not. As I still had quite a bit of BFL I dyed nine different colour shades and picked the best matching ones and spun a bit of that. Now I have a pound of BFLs in greens and greenish blues left, and I am sure I will fidn a nice project for them.

Der Färbetopf  ist mal wieder heiß geworden.  300 g BFL superwash habe ich gefärbt, jeweils 100 g. Von der blauen Wolle gibt es noch ein Foto, die überstrahlt etwas auf dem ersten.

The dye pot got hot again. I dyed 300 grams BFL superwash, 100 grams each. The blue one is a bit too bright in the first photo, so there is another one.

Außerdem habe ich noch BFL und Seide gefärbt. Das war meine erste Seidenfärbung. Da gibt es einiges zu zupfen, bis die spinnbar ist. Das blaugrüne BFL könnte ein Stora Dimun Shawl werden.

Furthermore I dyed some BFL and silk. This was the first time I dyed silk. I will have to do quite a bit of teasing before I will be able to  spin it. The blueishgreen BFL might become a Stora Dimun Shawl.

Dann habe ich ja letzthin die von Nora Blum gefärbte Wolle gezeigt, sie ist schon fertig gesponnen. 330 g und 1200 m Lauflänge. Ich weiß noch nicht, was ich daraus mache, habe aber erste Ideen.

Wollbeute – Wool Prey

Manchmal muss man Glück haben, und ein bisschen Fantasie. Und sich vorstellen können, wie falsch ein Foto Farben wiedergibt. So wie diese tolle superweiche BFL-Färbung von Nora Blum. Ich schreibe besser gar nicht, wie günstig ich die bekommen habe, das ist schon fast peinlich.

Sometimes you need a little bit of luck and fantasy. You have to imagine what a colour might look like that looks pretty wrong on a photo. As my wonderful supersoft BFL that I got from Nora Blum. I better don’t write how cheap I got it, that is almost embarassing.

Auch ich habe die Farbe nicht so ganz hin bekommen, aber so in etwa sieht die Wolle aus. Und die Wolle online sah so aus, also gaaanz anders, viel kältere Farben.

I also didn’t really manage to catch the colour, but I almost made it. And this is what the wool looked like online, completely different, the colours look much colder.

Und dann kamen heute schon meine neuen Fahrradreifen an, vom EVO-Bikeshop in Bochum. Gut, schnell, preiswert. Und morgen ist wieder richtig gutes Wetter zum Fahrrad fahren

My new tires for the bike also arrived today, from the EVO-Bikeshop in Bochum. Good quality, fast, low price. And tomorrow is nice and warmer weather again, so we can go cycling again

Der Spaß am Radfahren ist erst mal vorbei. Zum einen ist das Wetter wieder recht kühl, zum anderen hat mein armes Fahrrad einen  latten . Nun warte ich auf neue Reifen, die “Unplattbaren” von Schwalbe. Dann wird das Fahrrad wieder fit gemacht. Notfalls könnte ich ja immer noch mit meinem Mountainbike fahren, die Berge sind dann nur sehr anstrengend.

The fun withcycling is gone at the moment. On the one side the weather is rather cold again, and my poor bike has a flat . Now I am waiting for new tires, the “Nonflattables” by Schwalbe. Then the bike will be repaired. If delivery takes too long I can still use my mountainbike, but it is really hard to go up the mountains.

Meine zweite Edojacke wächst gut / my second Edo jacket grows well

Schon länger fertig ist die zweifädige Falklandwolle, gefärbt von Helen, 120 g und 470 m / spun since quite a while is the 2-ply Falkland wool dyed by Helen, 120 grams and 470 metres.

Mit Alison tausche ich Wolle seltener Rassen, ich habe letztes Jahr von ihr Corriedale x Manx Laughtan!!!!!! bekommen.  Superfluffig, 320 g und 845 m und nach dem Spinnen und Baden aufgegangen wie ein Hefekuchen.

I trade wool of rare breeds with Alison, last year I got Corriedale x Manx Laughthan!!!!! from her. Very fluffy, 320 grams and 845 metres, and after spinning and bathing it rose like a dough with yeast.

Und dann hat sich meien Fasersammlung mal wieder etwas erweitert. Bei der gefärbten Sojaseide von MandaCrafts konnte ich nicht wiederstehen.

And my fibre stash got a bit bigger again. I could not resist this wonderful handdyed soybean tops from Mandacrafts.

Shropshire Wolle – Shropshire Wool

Ich musste letzthin mal wieder bei Helen bestellen – sie färbt soooo tolle Kammzüge. Schöne Farben, keine verfilzten Fasern, ich mag ihre Wollen einfach. Sie wird ihren Shop übrigens in der nächsten Woche auffüllen. Das hier ist Shropshire-Lammwolle, 100 g und 370 Meter in Frühlingsfarben.

Lately I had to order from Helen once more – she dyed such beautiful tops. Beautiful colours, no felted fibres, I just like her wools. She will fill up her shop next week. This lambswool is from Shropshire sheep, 100 grams and 370 metres.

Seit 11 Tagen stricke ich neben zwei anderen Projekten hauptsächlich an der Edo-Jacke, Design Cheryl Oberle. Die Wolle ist selbstgefärbte selbstgesponnene BFL Seacell. Mal sehen, wie lang die Ärmel werden. Ich finde, die wolle passt hervorragend zu dieser Art Jacke und bei so einer Jacke ist die Ärmellänge auch ziemlich egal.

Since 11 days I am knitting mainly on my Edo Jacket, design Cheryl Oberle, besides two other projects. The yarn is selfdyed selfspun BFL seacell. It will be thrilling to see how long the sleeves will finally be. I think the yarn matches very well to the project. And with this kind of jacket, it does not actually matter how long the sleeves might finally be.

Letzte Woche ist eine Weste fertig geworden. Ein eigener Entwurf, von oben nach unten gestrickt, bis die Wolle zu Ende war. Ich hatte 200 g und 380 m sebstgesponnene BFL Wolle navajogezwirnt zur Verfügung, Wichtelwolle aus der Spinngruppe. Nadelstärke 7 mm, Knöpfe aus einem second-Hand-Shop in Karlstad, Schweden.

Last week I finished a vest. My own design, knitted top-down until the wool was finished. I had 200 grams and 380 metres of selfspun BFL wool navajoplied, from the julklapp in our spinning group. Needle size 7 mm, buttons from a second hand shop in Karlstad, Sweden.

Gesponnen habe ich auch, relativ dick, fluffig  und zweifädig. Finnische Wolle Multicolor vom Wollschaf, 300 g und 540 m. Die werde ich wohl mindestens mit Nadelstärke 8 mm verstricken.

I spun a rather bulky two-ply wool. Finnish wool multicolor (humbug) from Wollschaf, 300 grams and 540 metres. I guess I will at least use 8 mm needles for this wool.

In der Ravelry Gruppe 12 shawls in 2012 habe ich eine Anleitung zum Aussuchen von Rose Beck gewonnen. Ich habe mir den Forgotten Garden Shawl ausgesucht und schon mal angestrickt.

Und ich kann tatsächlich häkeln – wenn ich will und die Handgelenke mitmachen. Ich muss mir das ein bisschen einteilen.  Und wenn man dann ein tolles Häkeltuch bei Ravelry sieht und dann noch die tollen ( und lustigen) Häkelkrimis von Betty Hechtman liest, dann WILL man irgendwann häkeln. Und die passende Wolle habe ich sowieso, hauchfeine Merino mit Tencel, 100 g und 900 m. Und so wird nach und nach ein Chèche à la sauce bidules chouettes entstehen. Vor über 30 Jahren habe ich sogar mal einen kurzzeitigen Nebenjob gehabt und französische Häkelanleitungen isn Deutsche übersetzt. Aber jetzt bin ich froh, die auf Englisch in Ravelry finden zu können.

Yes, it is true, I can really crochet – if I want to and if I my wrists accept that. I have to make sure I don’t crochet too much in a short time. And if you find a wonderful crochet shawl at Ravelry and read the great (and funny) Crochet Mysteries by Betty Hechtman, well then you WANT to start crocheting after a while. I have the mathcing yarn anyway, very thin Merino with Tencel, 100 grams and 900 metres. And so the Chèche à la sauce bidules chouettes will come into existence bit by bit. Incredible, more than 30 years ago I had some short job: translating French crochet patterns to German. But now I am glad I can find them in english on Ravelry.

Spinnereien – Some Spinning

Zunächst einmal der Neuzugang: zwei wunderschöne Handspindeln von Texasjeans. Zugegeben, ich spinne wenig mit Handspindeln, aber die sind ja soooooo schön!!!!!!!  Links eine aus Ahorn Wurzelholz, 29 g schwer, und rechts eine aus Ilex (Hollywood) mit Kirschstab, 18 g schwer. Ja, das weiße ist wirklich Holz und kein Plastik. Die rechte Spindel erfordert etwas mehr Präzision beim andrehen, weil der Wirtel kleiner ist, dann geht sie aber ordentlich ab. Aber ich wollte gerne so eine Zwischengröße haben, die hatte ich extra bestellt. Und die linke Spindel läuft einfach nur, geht sofort schnell ab und ist der absolute Hammer. Die Maserung sieht ganz toll aus, wenn sie sich dreht. Das sind sicherlich nicht meine letzten Spindeln von Joshua.

I begin with new tools: two wonderful spindles from Texasjeans. I must admit I don’t spin a lot with spindles, but these are sooooooooooo beautiful!!!!! To the left one made from maple burl, 29 grams, and to the right hollywood with cherry shaft, 18 grams. Yup, the right one is really made from wood, no plastics. The right one needs a bit of concentration and cleverness to spin it, but once it turns it turns pretty well. I wanted to have such kind of medium size spindle, it was especialls made for me. The left one runs and runs and runs, it is incredible. And the grain looks so great when it is turning. I am sure these aren’t the last spindles I bought from Joshua.

Schon etwas länger fertig ist dieser Kaschmirersatz von Wolle Traub . Ich hatte davon ein Pröbchen bekommen. Wichtig: unbedingt erst nach dem Spinnen färben, sonst ist einiges filzig und knuddelig und das Spinnen kein großes Vergnügen. Und besonders dünn geht es dann auch nicht: 100 g und 220 m.

I spun this lately, it is Fake Cashmere from Wolle Traub. I was given a sample. Important: don’t dye before spinning, it will be felted and noils and no fun to spin. And then it isn’t easy to spin it thin as well: 100 grams and 220 metres.

Ich habe außerdem Sockenwolle mit reichlich Drall gesponnen, Cheviot superwash vom Wollschaf, selbstgefärbt und zweifädig gesponnen, 200 g und 775 m. Nun ist die Wolle so schön geworden, dass sie für Socken eigentlich zu schade ist.

Furthermore I spun sock wool with a lot of twist, Cheviot superwash from Das Wollschaf. It is selfdyed and 2-ply, 200 grams and 775 metres. Now the wool is so nice that it would be a pity to use it for socks.

Es gibt wieder einiges zu zeigen. Zunächst mal Spinnereien. Die hintere Wolle auf diesem Foto ist Masham. Vorgezogen wird die schon wesentlich pastelliger.

There is a bit I can show, I will start with spinning. The wool in the background is Masham. Predrafted the colours turn into pastel shades.

Und die fertig gesponnene Wolle hat dann eine Fülle von sanften Farben. Lauflänge 610 m, 200 g.

And the spun wool offers many different soft shades. Length 610 metres, 200 grams.

Ich nehme an einer Sammelbestellung von Bond-Wolle aus Australien teil. Vorab gab es schon mal Woll-Leckerli. 2 Lokcen und 1,8 g Bond-Wolle vom Bock Morwig, 1,8 g und 23 m. Und Optim Kammzug gab es auch, 50 g, das sind 2-fädig 320 m geworden. Die Fadendicke ist etwa von 4-fach-Sockenwolle.

I am taking part in a centralised buying of Bond wool from Australia. We got some wool candies in advance. 2 locks and 1.8 grams of Bond ram wool, which gave 23 m single yarn. And we also got 50 grams Optim roving, which spun to 320 metres, 2-ply. The thread is as thick as 4-ply sockyarn.

Eine Mütze nach meiner neuen Anleitung habe ich auch gestrickt, aus selbstgesponnener Wolle. Einem Schäfchen ist sie doch recht groß, aber zu zweit passt sie schon fast.

I knit a hat using  my new papttern from selfspun wool. It is a bit huge for one sheep, but for two sheep it fits almost perfectly.
