Zwei neue Filzhüte nach der Anleitung aus Nordic Felted Knits sind fertig. Meine Tochter wollte gerne einen in Blau haben, und die Wolle reichte auch für einen Hut für mich:

Von der gefärbten Wolle ist wieder etwas fertig gesponnen, die Wittener Milchschafwolle, verzwirnt mit einem Faden Konengarn/Baumwolle:

Und bitte nicht wundern, wenn es hier in den nächsten Wochen nichts zu lesen gibt. Morgen geht es nach Schweden, Urlaubs- und Silberhochzeitsreise. Die Wachkater und Tochter samt Freund bewachen derweil Haus und Wollberge.

My daughter wanted a felted blue hat, and there was enough wool to make another one for me. The pattern is from Nordic Felted Knits. The second photo shows the Zetor Shawl that I am working on. On the third you can see wool I spun from my dyed wool left front, twisted with some bought thin cotton thread.

Don’t wonder if it gets quiet here during the next weeks. Tomorrow my husband and I will set of to Sweden for holidays/journey because of our silver wedding. House and wool stash will be guarded by our cats, our daughter and her boyfriend.

Hier ist die erste fertige Wolle aus den Färbereien:

Je ein Faden smaragdgrüner und mittelblauer Kammzug superwash udn ein Faden Polyacryl-Kammzug. Die Stärke ähnelt fertiger Sockenwolle sechsfach.

Here is the first yarn form the dyed wool. Twisted from one ply green and one ply blue, plus one ply polyacrilic roving in blue. It is almost as thick as 6-ply sockwool.

Ich habe so drüber nachgedacht, was für Wolle ich mit in Urlaub nehmen könnte zum Spinnen ( am 10.7. geht es nach Schweden). Und da kam mir in den Sinn, dass ich ja UNBEDINGT mal wieder färben muss, um eine Auswahl zu haben. Und wenn man schon mal dran ist…leider sehen die Wollen wegen der Sonne etwas blasser aus, als sie tatsächlich sind.

70% Mohair, 30% Beyenburger Merino. Das Blau ist Ashford pur, nur etwas verdünnt. Im Hintergrund ein Tuch, dass ich nochmal blaugrün überfärbt habe.

Links Wittener Milchschaf, Grundfarbe verschiedene Grautöne, in der Mitte graues Wensleydale-Kardenband von Huppertz überfärbt, rechts Superwash von Tinka (für Socken).

Das ist “Frustwolle”. Mein Mann musste vor drei Wochen wegen einer akuten Sache ins Krankenhaus, und dort lief einiges nicht so, wie es sollte. Da brauchte ich was Buntes zum Aufheitern. Insgesamt sind das 1120 m und 600 g, navajogezwirnt. Die graue Wolle habe ich extra noch für den Urlaub gesponnen. Vielleicht finde ich die Ruhe, mit Nalbinding anzufangen. Diese wolle dürfte dafür besonders gut geeignet sein, denn es ist schwedische Waldschafwolle.

I thought about what kind of spinning wool I might take with me on our holidays (we will go to Sweden on the 10th July).  And then I realized I ABSOLUTELY had to dye some wool to have a variety to choose from. And once you get started … unfortunately the wools look paler than they are due to the sunshine.

The first photo shows a blend of 70% mohair and 30% Beyenburger merino. The blue is pure Ashford dye.  Second photo from the left: Wittener Milchschaf in different shaed of grey, overdyed, grey Wensleydale roving overdyed, superwash roving on the right for sockwool. Photo three and four show some details, photo five the dried wool.

The last photo shows the finished multicolour Space, navajo-plied. I started spinning this wool when my husband had to go to hospital acutely and some things went wrong there. I definitely needed something colourful to cheer me up. These are 600 grams of wool with a length of 1120 metres. I spun the grey wool especially for the holidays. I might find time and be relaxed enough to start Nalbindning, so I spun this wool from an ancient breed, Swedish Woodsheep (Värmlandssheep).

Und dann spinne ich im Moment viel im Garten. Ein zweiter Strang von der Space Multicolor ist fertig, ebenso ein fluffiger Strang Lammwolle-Mohair-Mix (110g, 317 m). Space ist prima für mindless spinning, die Spule rechts im Bild habe ich gesponnen, während ich in dem Buch “The Shop in Blossom Street” gelesen habe.

Die Angorasocken und ein Handwärmer für meine Mutter sind rechtzeitig zu ihrem heutigen 87. Geburtstag fertig geworden:

Der Handwärmer aus Angora und neuseeländischer Lammwolle ist eine Art Muff, der hoffentlich ihre Finger wärmen wird. Leider hat sie nämlich durch die Diabetes nicht nur ständig kalte Füsse, sondern auch kalte Hände.

Und dann kam heute noch ein Paket von der Tischlerei Walther mit fünf Zusatzspulen für mein Spinnrad Ella.

Nun habe ich acht Spulen, das wird wohl erst mal reichen.

The angora socks are finished and ready to be a present for my mother’s 87th birthday today. She gets a handwarmer as well, because diabetes also causes permanently cold hands and fingers.

I got a parcel from the Tischlerei Walther today, containing five more bobbins for my Ella spinning wheel. Now I have eight bobbins, which will be enough for a start.

Das erste paar Angora-Alpaka-Socken ist fertig. Nun muss ich mich mit dem Stricken ranhalten, denn meine Mutter hat am Donnerstag ihren 87. Geburtstag. Das nächste Paar wird grau mit creme.

Dann brauchte ich noch gestern etwas zur Beruhigung, also habe ich noch Space versponnen:

 The first pair of angora-alpaca-socks is knitted, but I have to hurry a bit with the second, because it is my mother’s birthday on Thursday. And then I needed something to relax, so I spun some Space.

Und dann ist da noch die Geschichte von der Spinnenmama, die auf ihre Kinder aupasst. Eine Schüssel, Reste von Erdbeeren mit Zucker waren, stand vorübergehend auf der Spülmaschine. Als ich sie in die Spülmaschine räumen wollte, war sie bewohnt. Also ließ ich die Spinne  (Körperlänge ca. 5 mm) erst mal in Ruhe.

Und siehe da, es hat sich gelohnt. Die Spinennmama passt auf ihre Spinnenkinder auf und wenn die zu faul sind, lassen sie sich von Mama tragen.

And then there is this story of the little spider mama. A bowl with the remainders of strawberries and sugar was standing on the dishwasher, and I wanted to put it inside. But by then there was a lodger already, a small spider, length of the body about 5 mm. And it was a good idea to leave the spider alone. As magnifying by digital photography shows, she is a caring mom, guarding her little spider kids. And as they are lazy sometimes, they love to be carried around by her.

Gerade ist ein paar Diabetikersocken für meine Mutter in Arbeit. Die Wolle ist extrem edel und selbstgesponnen, Satinangora mit allerfeinstem Alpaka:

These will become socks for my mother, who has diabetes. As she has always cold feet they will be fin for her. Selfspun wool from satinangora and very fine alpaca.

Something to read for the holidays. The knitting Mystery from Maggie Sefton was just published as paperback.

Am Sonntag war Spinnen im Museum, und Marianne aus Holland war dort. Sie färbt so tolles Kardenband, überwiegend Mohair von ihren eigenen Ziegen, da musste ich einfach zuschlagen:

On Sunday Marianne from Holland was at our spinning meeting in the Museum. She always offers nice wool, mostly mohair from her own goats, and she is a master in dyeing, so I had to buy wuite a bit.

Am Samstag haben wir endlich die Holzspaltaktion beendet, bei sowas merkt man, dass man alt wird. Das Holz liegt zweireihig und vorne dreireihig und muss jetzt erst mal trocknen:

Last week on Saturday we finished chopping wood, I really felt that I am getting old. The wood is piled in two and three columns and now hast to dry for two years. 

Gestern im Wülfing-Museum waren leider nicht viele Besucher, so war das dann ein gemütliches Spinntreffen in einem interessanten Ambiente ohne viel Aktion. Ich habe fleißig gesponnen, auch anschließend zu Hause noch. Das neue Spinnrad musste ja intensiv getestet werden. Alle Geschwindigkeiten, verschiedene Materialien: Kammzug, Mohair, Angora. Auf dem Ella spinnt es sich einfach nur toll, was für ein traumhaftes Spinnrad. Hier sind die ersten Ergebnisse:

Oben Kammzug Ombria von Huppertz, 236 g mit 1120 m Lauflänge, ein stabiler Faden mit viel Drall. Das ging alles auf eien Spule, und es hätte noch mehr draufgepasst. Unten buntes Mohair von Marianne, verzwirnt mit grauer Wittener Milchschafwolle. Und dann habe ich mir nach längerer Überlegung noch etwas geleistet:

Knitpicks Harmony Stricknadeln von der Wollbox, und wenn schon, dann richtig, also mit Extraspitzen und Extraseilen. Das Denise Nadelset habe ich schon weitergegeben. Ich stricke einfach zu fest für Denise Nadeln. 

 Unfortunateky there were not many visitors in the Wülfing-Museum yesterday, but we had a nice spinning meeting there in a nice place. I even spun some more at home and tested my new spinning wheel intensively. it is even much better than I thought. I tried all the different ratios/speeds, and different material, like roving, mohair and angora. Everything can be spun fine on it. On the photo you can see the roving, 236 grams and 1120 metres, plus some multicolour mohair from Marianne twisted with some grey sheepwool. I also spent some mone on needles after thinking about it for three quarter of a year. Now I bought a complete set of knitpicks with some extra equipment. I sold my “old” Denise set already, because my knitting is too tight for them.

Was mag wohl aus diesem unförmigen Ding aus selbstgesponnener Gotlandwolle werden?

Noch sieht es ja ziemlich nutzlos aus, aber nachdem es in der Waschmaschine war, kann man erkennen, was das werden sollte und auch geworden ist, Merlin führt das mal vor:

Was für ein Glück, dass Pontus lieber unter der Gartenliege liegt:

What might become of this formless thing made of handspun Gotland wool? After it was in the washing machine, it has a better shape and Merlin shows what it was made for. Lucky him, Pontus prefers to sleep under the sunbed.

Meine neues Spinnrad Ella der Tischlerei Thomas Walther ist da, acht Wochen habe ich darauf gewartet:

Eigentlich ist dieses Spinnrad noch ein Prototyp, aber die Perfektion ist absolut beeindruckend. Meine Ausführung ist in Birke Multiplex. Die Übersetzungsverhältnisse sind 1:10, 1:14, 1:18, 1:25, die Spulen sind wohl etwas kleiner als beim Tom. Das Spinnrad lässt sich sehr leicht treten, der Spinnflügel läuft vorne am Einzugsloch in einem Kugellager. Bei 1:14 und 1:25 hat man dann jeweils etwas mehr Wadenmuskeltraining. Bei der schnellen Bewegung der einzelnen Teile entwickelt sich gelegentlich ein leichtes Summen.
Ich musste natürlich sofort anspinnen, das spinnen an diesem Spinnrad ist extrem beruhigend, ich weiß auch nicht warum, ist einfach so. Ich hatte das Gefühl, in einen “Tagschlaf” zu versinken.

Einfach nur toll dieses Spinnrad, ich muss mich gleich wieder dransetzen…

Today I got my new spinning wheel from the carpenter Thomas Walther. I had to wait eight weeks before I got it. It is a kind of prototype, but still it is absolutely perfect. You can see the first wool thatt I spun with it. The tension adjustment is done by a wooden plate, which really works well.

The ratios are 1:10, 1:14, 1:18, 1:25. It is easy to tread and runs very smooth. Just some humming from the speed of the rotating parts can be heard. I had to do test spinnning immediately, it is very realxing to spin on this wheel, I had the feeling to slide into a day dream, no idea why that happened….
