Gestrickt und Gesponnen – Knitted and spun

Endlich ist der Pullover aus Shetland Humbug fertig,  gestrickt nach einer modifizierten Anleitung aus LEA200. Eigentlich habe ich nur das Mittelmuster beibehalten, und das ist wohl ein traditionelles irisches Muster. Leider ist das Novemberwetter nicht schön zum Fotografieren.

Ich hatte mit dieser Mohairwolle ein Tuch angestrickt, aber der Faden war mir zu dünn und instabil. Nun habe ich ihn mit blauer Konenwolle verzwirnt (420 m).

I had started a shawl with this wool, but I had the impression it wasn’t strong enough,so I twisted it with thin blue wool (420 metres).

Und dann warte ich noch sehnsüchtig auf mein neues Spinnrad, ein Little Gem II. Sarah von Hedgehog Equipment hat mein Spinnrad und eins in die Niederlande gleichzeitig am letzten Mittwoch abgeschickt. Das in den Niederlanden kam am Montag an, meins ist noch irgendwo in England, Parcelforce/Royal Mail scheint Probleme zu haben, mein Spinnrad zu finden. Man hat mir vor Stunden versprochen, innerhalb der nächsten Viertelstunde zurückzurufen, aber der Anruf kommt nicht. Soll sowas Service sein?

I am still waiting for my new spinning wheel impatiently., a Little Gem II. Sarah from Hedgehog Equipment sent my wheel and one to the Netherlands last Wednesday. The one to the Netherlands arrived on Monday, mine must still be in England somewhere, Parcelforce/Royal Mail seems to have problems to find it. I was promised to get a call within aquarter hour many hours ago, but there hasn’t been a call yet. Is that what Royal Mail calls „service“?

Zweiter Bloggeburtstag – Second Blog’s Anniversary

Wir sind aus dem Emsland zurück. Allerdings habe ich damit den zweiten Bloggeburtstag nach dem Umzug zu WordPress verpasst. Und es ist kaum zu glauben, wie viele Besucher in den zwei Jahren hier waren: über 130.000!!!! Herzlichen Dank für eure Besuche in meinem Blog. Viele suchen nach kostenlosen Anleitungen und kommen z.B. aus Handarbeitsforen, von der Strickmasche , Simpleknits, von Ravelry, aber neuerdings auch aus Russland und Polen. Aber es kommen auch viele Besucher von anderen Blogs hierher. Und in letzter Zeit kommen auch immer mal wieder Leser von Fosbos-Improve your English hierher, um Texte in Deutsch und in Englisch zu lesen. Allerdings steht dort, dass es hier nur um Wolle geht. Es wird wohl Zeit, mal wieder etwas über erneuerbare Energien zu schreiben.

We are back from Emsland. But I missed the second anniversary of my bolg after I moved over here to WordPress. Hard to believe, but I had more than 130,000 visitors in two years!!! Thank you a lot for visiting my blog. Many visiotrs look for free patterns and come from needlecraft forums, from Strickmasche, Simpleknits, Ravelry but lately also from Russia and Poland. But there are also many visitors coming here from other blogs. Lately there come also readers from the site Fosbos – Improve your English to my blog. Fosbos  states that this blog is only about wool. So it seems to be time to write about renewable energies again.

Und dann habe ich in den Ferien natürlich auch genadelt und gesponnen. Der Pullover aus Shetlandwolle wächst, aber ein Zopfmuster braucht eben seine Zeit. Deshalb gibt es darüber noch kein neues Foto. Ich habe die Weihnachtsstrickerei angefangen, der erste Diabetikersocken für meine Mutter ist fertig. Gestrickt aus selbstgesponnener Wolle, graue Angorawolle von Mariannes Angorakaninchen, verzwirnt mit grauer Massam-Wolle

Die Wolle ist viel weicher als sie aussieht. Außerdem habe ich ein  wenig gefärbten Norddeutschen Kammzug versponnen (100g und 250 m) und Merino-Seidenmischung nachgesponnen (200 Gramm und 500 m)

In my holidays I knitted and spun, of course. The sweater from Shetland wool is growing, but it takes time to knit cable patterns. So there wont be a new photo of the sweater coming into existence. I started knittin Xmas presents, the first diabetics sock for my mother is finished. It is knitted from selfspun angora of Marianne’s angora rabbbits and plied with a thread of grey Massam wool. The wool is much softer than it looks like.  additionally I spun some selfdyed ilk Northern German Roving (100 grams and 250 metres) and some more Merino-Silk blend (200 grams and 500 metres).

Herbstferien – Autumn Holidays

Im Moment sind Herbstferien. Zum Glück soll das Wetter auch endlich besser werden, auch wenn es kalt bleiben soll. Die Shetland Humbug Wolle war schnell gesponnen, es sind 300 Gramm und 770 m.

Right now we have autumn holidays. Luckily the weather is finally getting better, though it shall stay cold. The Shetland Humbug was spun fast, 300 grams and 770 metres.

Von einer Angora-Massam Mischung, ein Faden Angora und ein Faden Massam, habe ich auch nachgesponnen. Daraus werden Diabetikersocken für meine Mutter zu Weihnachten

I also spun some more of a mix of angora and Massam, one thread anhgora and one Massam. The yarn will become diabetics socks as a my mother’s Christmas present.

Morgen fahren wir wieder ein paar Tage ins Emsland. Die Kater werden dann wieder von unserer Tochter verwöhnt, sie wohnt ja auch im Haus in ihrer eigenen Wohnung. Hier ein paar Fotos von vor zwei Wochen im Norden

Heidefläche, die Heidepflanzen sollten eigentlich lila blühen. Allerdings ist der Boden total ausgetrocknet. Eigentlich sollen die Ersatzflächen entsprechend gepflegt und gewässert werden. Schade, dass sich nach fünf Jahren schon niemand mehr darum kümmert, das war doch vertaglich festgelegt.

Spinnen und Zwirnen – Spinning and Plying

Hier ist eine interessante Wollsorte, sie kommt vom Polwarthschaf. Das ist eine Krezung 3/4 Merino und 1/4 Lincoln Longwool. Ich habe vom Wollschaf eine Probe bekommen. Die Wolle ist superweich und fluffig und sehr leicht zu spinnen. Klar, ich habe direkt noch mehr davon bestellt. Denn die Wolle ist nur vorübergehend im Programm.

Here is a very interesting kind of wool, it is from Polwarth sheep. They are a crosbreed of 3/4 merino and 1/4 Lincoln longwool. I got a sampple from Wollschaf. This wool is supersoft and fluffy and very easy to spin. Sure, I ordered some more of it. They will only offer this wool temporarily.

Hier ist der Grund, warum ich beim Wollschaf etwas bestellt habe. Ich schaffe es tatsächlich mal wieder, etwas öfter an einem Pullover (vielleicht wird es auch eine Jacke?) zu stricken. Wegen des Zopfmusters bin ich mir allerdings nicht sicher, ob die selbstgesponnene Wolle reicht, deshalb habe ich noch etwas Shetland Humbug nachbestellt. (Anleitung Lea Heft von 2008, etwas abgewandelt).

Here is the reason why I had an order at Wollschaf. I finally manage again to knit at a jumper (or maybe a cardigan?) more often. Due to the cable pattern I am not sure if I spun enough wool, thats why I ordered some more Shetland humbug.(adapted pattern from a Lea magazine from 2008).

Klar, und wenn man gerade bei der Bestellung ist, kommt auch noch etwas mehr wolle ins Paket, die man sowieso irgendwann mal braucht. Oben links ist Merino mit Seide, die gibt es beim Wollschaf auf Anfrage.  Die vielen bunten Proben sind Spaceproben für unsere Spinngruppe. Der bunte Ball ist Space. Und dann ist das noch Shetlandwolle mit Seide, dunkelbraun, da hatte ich etwas von meinem Stash verschenkt und nun war der Rest ein bisschen wenig für ein Projekt.

Of course I ordered some more wool that I will certainly need some day. Top left is Merino with Silk, the small samples are Space colour samples spinning group, some Space for me and a ball of Shetland with Silk, dark brown. I gave some of my stash away as a present and needed some more so that it is sufficient for a big project.

Außerdem pillt diese Merinowolle kaum. Die neue Wolle werde ich wohl zweifädig zwirnen, das könnten interessante Farbübergänge werden.

The colour of my Space wool looks a bit wild, but it looks great when spun. Additionally this merino wool hardly pills. I think of plying 2-ply this time, that might become interesting colour shifts.

Der norddeutsche Kammzug ist fertig. Dickere Wolle, 434 Gramm und 600 m Lauflänge, navajogezwirnt. Beim Navajozwirnen mache ich kleine Schlaufen, etwas größer als faustgroß. Dann wird bei mir die Ziwrnbewegung gleichmäßiger.

The Northern German Roving is finished. The wool is rather bulky, 434 grams and 600 metres. I plied it in the navajo technique. When navajo plying I make small loops, about the size of a fist, because my plying movement gets more regular with small loops.

Sockenkreis – Circle of socks

Die Freundin unseres Sohnes hat heute Geburtstag. Sie mag Brauntöne und Handgestricktes, deshalb habe ich ihr drei Paar Socken gestrickt. Aber wie ordnet man drei paar Socken für ein Foto an? Mir fiel diese Lösung ein.

Das Wetter ist grau uns üselig heute morgen, fotografieren ohne zu blitzen klappte nicht. Ein typischer Novembermorgen im Oktober…

Our son’s girlfriend has her birthday today. She like brownish colours and handknitted garment. That is why I knitted her three pairs of socks. But how do you arrange three pairs of socks on a photo? I found this solution. The weather is pretty grey this morning. It was not possible to take a photo without a flashlight. A typical November morning in October…
Gestern nachmittag war Spinntreffen in unserem Wohnzimmer. Ich wollte mal wieder etwas Buntes Spinnen. Also habe ich die Wolle von dieser Färbung

abschnittsweise zusammengestellt und zu einem großen Kardenbandknäuel aufgewickelt. Abends habe ich dann die erste Spule navajogezwirnt.

Yesterday afternoon we had a spinning meeting in our living room. I wanted to spin something with colours, so I chose the wool from the first photo, parted the roving and arranged the bits to a huge roving ball. In the evening I did navajo plying with the first bobbin of wool.
Detail navajozwirnen. Ich mache kleine Schlaufen, ungefähr Faustgröße. Dadurch wird die Bewegung gleichmäßiger und es entstehen keine auffälligen Knoten.

Feine Wolle – Fine Wool

Es ist mal wieder feine Wolle fertig geworden.Ich habe das kardierte Vlies Finnschaf x Ryaschaf fertig gesponnen, es sind 660 Gramm und 1765 m. Letztes Jahr habe ich schon mal einen Strang gesponnen, die zweifädige Wolle reicht also für einen schönen Wikingerpullover.

Some wool is finished. I finished spinning a carded fleece Finnsheep X Ryasheep, 660 grams and 1765 metres. Last year I spun another strand, so it is sufficient wool to knit a viking sweater.

Letzte Woche im Musem habe ich Mohair-Spinnwolle bei Marianne gekauft. Die war recht schnell versponnen. Es sind 170 Gramm und 408 Meter.

Last week in the museum I bought some mohair roving from Marianne. It was spun fast, 170 grams and 408 metres.

Auf den Nadeln ist selbstgesponnene Norwegerwolle. Daraus soll dieses Kissen für meinen Mann werden. Die Ecken sehen dann so aus:

Cormo Wolle – Cormo wool

Vor einiger Zeit bin ich bei Ravelry über Cormowolle gestolpert. Und irgendwie hatte ich das Gefühl, ich muss mal unbedingt diese Wolle haben. Cormoschafe sind eine Kreuzung zwischen Corriedale- und Merinoschafen mit extrem weicher Wolle, telweise nur 17 Mikron „dick“. Ich habe mir diese Wolle ja schon sehr weich vorgestellt, aber was ich heute beim Zoll abgeholt habe, hat alle Erwartungen übertroffen. Ja, ich musste zum Zoll, denn Cormowolle gibt es in Deutschland nicht. Auch in den Niederlanden gibt es sie nicht, und in Frankreich und England sind auch Spinnerinnen, die von Sue Reuser Wolle importiert haben. Preiswert ist die Wolle nicht, aber sie wird auch mit viel Auwand „produziert“. Somit ist ein hoher Preis gerechtfertigt. Und sie hat einen weite Reise hinter sich, sie kommt aus Kalifornien.

Some time ago I stumbled over Cormo wool at Ravelry and I got the feeling that this is a „Must Have“ fibre. Cormos are a rather new breed, crossbred from Corriedales and Merinos with extremely soft wool, down to 17 micron. I imagined this wool to be very soft, but when I got it at the customs today it was even softer than in my imagination. Well, I had to drive to the customs, because you cannot find Cormo wool in Germany, and as well not in the Netherlands. Sue Reuser has customers from France and England as well, so there wont be any Cormo sheep too. The wool isn’t cheap, but it needs a lot of attention in production to get this high quality level, which justifies price.And it had a long journey, it came from California.

Spinnen im Wülfing-Museum am 13. September

Am 13. September spinnt unsere Spinngruppe im Wülfing-Museum in Radevormwald-Dahlerau.  An diesem Tag ist auch Bahnhofsfest im Eisenbahnmuseum in Radevormwald-Dahlhausen. Es werden Draisinenfahrten nach Dahlerau angeboten, von dort kann man zum Wülfingmuseum gehen.

Es lohnt sich also, das nächste Wochenende für einen schönen Familienausflug einzuplanen.

Wir werden im Museum wie üblich selber spinnen und genügend Spinnräder mitbringen, damit Besucher das Spinnen ausprobieren können. Ich werde ein Spinnrad mitbringen, das ich übrig habe und das ein neues Zuhause sucht. Marianne wird dort sein, auch mit gebrauchten gut laufenden Spinnrädern, traumhafter selbstgefärbter Wolle, zum Spinnen oder bereits fertig versponnen, sowie wunderbaren handgefilzten Sachen. Zwei Stränge – Two Strands

Beides von einem gefärbten Kardenband Superwashwolle, die eigentlich rot und dunkelrot werden sollte. Nach dem Fixieren in der Mikrowelle ging aber beim Auswaschen jede Menge Farbe wieder raus. Da die entstandenen Farben auch nicht übel aussehen, habe ich die Wolle so gelassen, wie der Zufall es wollte. Allerdings habe ich dann nicht in einem durchgesponnen, sondern einzelne Bereiche des geplanten Farbverlaufs in diese zwei Stränge aufgeteilt. Der obere Strang in Lacestärke hat 134 g und 1120 m Lauflänge, der untere zweifädige 176 g und 683 m.

The remaining colours don’t look bad, so I left the wool the way it became by accident. But I didn’t spin it in just one strand, changing from colour to colour, but parted the roving. The upper lace strand has 134 grams and 1120 metres, the lower 2-ply 176 grams and 683 metres.

Wollige Woche – Wooly Week

Es war wieder eine wollige Woche, aber das kennt ihr ja sicherlich auch von euch. Einem Tag ohne textile Fasern in der Hand fehlt etwas. Bei mir kommt das Stricken im Moment absolut zu kurz. Ich finde mich immer wieder vorm Spinnrad wieder, sobald ich etwas Zeit habe. Die ist wieder reichlich weniger geworden, da ich nach der Sommerpause jetzt wieder voll in meinen Job eingestiegen bin.

It was another wooly week, but you might know the feeling yourself. A day without fingering textile fibres lack some important essential. Right now I do absolutely little spinning. I usually find myself sitting in front of the spinning wheel as soon as I got some spare time. The spare time is much less now after the summer break, work is getting quite a lot now and my job consumes more than a bit of time.

Einige Gramm Texelwolle zum Testen eines neuen Spinnflügels für mein Ella-Spinnrad. Mein Mann baut mir einen Spinnflügel mit großem Einzugsloch. Bei diesem Test war es 14 mm groß, er baut den Spinnflügel aber auf 20 mm um.

My husband build a bulky flyer for my Ella spinning wheel. The test ist done with a 14 mm orifice, he is changing it to 20 mm now. The test wool is Texel wool.

Sebstgefärbte Superwash-Wolle. ca 150 Gramm. Ich bin mir noch nicht sicher, ob sie Lacegarn bleibt oder verzwirnt wird.

105 Gramm Wollmischung, 50% Mohair und 50 % Wolle, von Marianne gemischt und gefärbt. 310 Meter zweifädig nach dem Spinnen.

Und hier kann man den überraschenden Unterschied im Volumen bei Wolle sehen, die fast gleich viel wiegt.

Ich habe natürlich auch „ganz normale“  Wolle gesponnen. Allerdings nicht in der letzten Woche, sondern schon vorher.

Hier ist das Schaf Pünktchen in glücklichen Tagen mit der Besitzerin Astrid. Leider lebt Pünktchen nicht mehr, Die Blauzungenkrankheit und ein Unfall haben diesem Schaf zu sehr zugesetzt.

Here is the sheep „Pünktchen“ back in the good old days with her owner Astrid. Sadly Pünktchen doesn’t live any more. Bluetongue disease and an accident made this wonderful cuddly sheep to weak to live on.

Wenn sich das Wetter hält, werde ich heute nachmittag eine Färbeaktion im Garten machen.

If the weather stays fine I will do some dyeing in the garden this afternoon.
